Thanks man I am really happy with it, now I just need to sell the 74 jimmy I bought a week ago, lol.

I drove it around earlier today it was sputtering out on the way home a bit. I took the oil bath air cleaner off and drove it around and ran WAY better. Need to buy a cheap open air cleaner and keep the orignal. Drives great except for that POS closed knuckle front end.... For now I am going to save some $$ than swap a disk brake front axle and some power steering on it. I think it would drive great than.

Thanks, I guess first thing first would be to get it more drivable (IE swap out the closed knuckle front end) make sure everything is mechanically SOUND, p/s, etc. than lift and tires (4-6" with 33-35s on rallys) or interior. than depending on how strong the motor seems put vortec heads and a mild cam on a gm goodwrench crate motor I have sitting around with 3,000 on the bottom end. I have a 81 or so gmc jimmy 4x4 with a 700r4 I think would make this a nice driver. redo interior and paint orignal at some point.

I drive a work truck all week so just something to drive on the weekends tow my quad, travel to one of my competitions, etc. Plan is getting it decent to drive on the highway as you can get one of these and reliable enough to travel a few hundred miles with.

No offroading for this thing except maybe cruise around Pismo for some good pics :)

not sure on your gears but i have a 10 bolt disc front end out of an 85 blazer, 3:08 gears. it's complete except for the locking hubs and you can have it if you want it, otherwise it's going to the scrap yard. i'm in brentwood, about 25 minutes from livermore.

I have 3:73 gears. I think my friend has a 3:73 14bff and 3/4 dana 44 front. Would be nice to have the bigger brakes if I ever tow anything with it. If not I have an 81 or so gmc jimmy parts truck with a 10 bolt in the front.

I really appreciate the offer though.

Man, the more I look at that thing the more I see it is a heck of a deal!! Mine had some documents with it, but not like this one, WOW!! That 327 has a forged crank in it and ought to be stout enough and reliable enough if it holds good oil pressure and no smoke, I'd just drive it as is. Do a tune up (plugs, wires, hei (if you want), hoses, belts, and you'll have a sweet rig. If you decided on a 67-8 chevy front end, all you'd need is a core support for one headlight vs two and a chevy grill, the fenders and hood are the same. I do it, but that is just me, but with as original and documented as it is that is a tough one. Whatever you do to it is cool, do what you need to do to enjoy it! I think a little lift (front axle and discs) and some tires and I roll it as is for ever, the patina on that is legit and not an too bad to be enjoyed!

Thats pretty much the plan. I'm not going with a Chevy front end this truck is clean rare and orignal so I am keeping it stock looking. just saying its my preference. The GMC grille is growing on me everyday anyways.

It has a receipt saying the engine was replaced in 79 under warranty so I think it has a 350 in it. I'm going to try to grab the #s off it later this week (Its not at my house.)

Oh if I repaint it that won't be for AWHILE the 50th colors look good faded anyways. First step is to put the 3/4 axles under it with a disk brake conversion in the back and p/s. Does the gearbox off a 81 fit? I have a 81 jimmy parts truck with P/S. I know you have to either dimple the frame or build some sort of spacer.

Yeah, the gearbox is the same. I think the 68 may have the dimples.

Wow, congrats on that find. A similar shape truck around here with zero documentation is usually $3,500 minimum.

I am pretty sure it didn't when I looked. my 68 K10 I had didn't either. I will double check though. I hope your right!

My '68 K10 doesn't have the dimple. The previous owner just shimmed the box when they installed power steering.

Thanks Pete, when I saw it on the side of the road I thought it would be around 3500-4000 I called and made sure the price was right and he didn't mean a 1500 series :lol:

I believe some of the vendors offer a kit to shim one out, I have had 67's and 68's but it has been awhile, I thought they changed somewhere in the middle of 67 or at least by 68 to the dimples, heck i have been wrong before!

On the motor, I had forgotten you said it was swapped. You are more than likely right as a 327 crate would have been tough to find in 79! Man, i am not keeping up and posting stuff that is off, sorry. Sweet Burb and glad to hear you are keeping it. As far as keeping it OE, I think any change made with safety (discs), comfort (ps, PDB), and performance (ditching the closed knuckle to improve turning and stopping) are all OK in my book. The grill is something I could get used to and as you said it is pretty rare and lots of documentation so why swap it?

I think some 68s had dimples but maybe no 68 4x4s?

Thats the plan. Need to be able to drive the damn things to enjoy them! I'll keep all the stock axles and stuff stored for if I ever end up selling it.

I think I have a 67 or 68 327 that I could rebuild. I got to check where all my stuff is I don't remember if I sold it or not. Might be kind of cool to put a somewhat period correct 327 back in it.

found my axles! they where hidden on the ranch. LOL

If I remember right these are 76ish dana 44 and 14bolt ff with 3:73s

I'll haul them up and get the #s

the bolts for the steering are ground off. I am sure I can have a machine shop install new studs?

So its a 327 from 68! says for a c10-35 though not k10?

I'm diggin that sucker more and more. How good is the liftgate? Shake it and see if you hear rust rattling around inside it.
