Went to the DMV and got my 1970/71 plates checked. The # was clear thankfully, so it was just a matter of $15 to transfer them. :metal:

Picked up a set of Hawaiian YOMs for my '69 Camaro. The thought being, at a show I'd rather not have someone trying to find it through a number search. Collecting dealer plates for the same reason.

These were the original plates that were on my truck, 1968. I have not cleaned them up yet.

I think the spirit of the law is to keep the plates the original color and gloss level. That keeps some guy from painting them to match his vehicle or something. I told the customer that these were now for display only as he can't legally run a set of powder coated plates according to the letter of the law.

Whether he minds that or not is up to him.

Found this one at an antique shop. Got lucky, my trucks a 71 and the "KA" designates the county I live in.

Here are two I bought on eBay. The RL represents the county, in this case Riley County, which is where I grew up. I registered the top one for my truck.

These are not only YOM plates for my 69, they are also the original plates assigned when we bought the truck in southern California in Nov, 1969. I took them off when we moved to Wisconsin in 1971. Wish I could run them here. Might put them on if I take truck to car shows.

Only other one I have seen! I also have a 67 truck WA plate with 67 sticker. Nice! I'll have to get a pic of mine.

That's what I was thinking. I had 2 cars back then that were XDB-377 and XNM-491. I still have the XNM-491s.

Perfect 1931 Michigan plate on my '31 A. Just had to touch up the screw locations a little bit but other than that it was unrestored.

In Michigan you are not allowed to run a Manufacturer's plate as a YOM....unless you happened to sneak it through before the rule change:

I got that one from our original salesman, still in the paper. It's for special occasions only.

So these are what found their way onto the car. I'm not even sure where I got these; I think they were just laying around in the garage, but now there's kinda some history there and I'm stuck with them:
