Would it be fair to say then that if I have the valve open and I'm still seeing this problem, the valve is not the cause?

What goes on between the intake and exhaust manifolds above the valve, could a leaking gasket between the two cause a problem like this? Or would it just be an exhaust leak?

I just don't like the interupted exhaust flow, you could just wire it open for a test.

Well, it's been a strange couple days. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. The truck is running great right now. I played with the heat riser and the carb and the timing and overall I don't think I really changed anything. But it's running great. I'm thinking something is sticky--maybe in the carb. Still keeping an eye on the heat riser. I think I'm going to put a kit in the carb next and see how it goes. As it turns out, it is a Rochester carb. Either a model B or M...I have the numbers and it seems to be listed as both?

Any preference on kits for completeness and quality of parts and instructions?

2nd that....just show her that she is your "best" baby girl:lol: All jokes aside,you might had a bad load of gas? (the truck)LOL! Maybe a little trash or moisture in the system....toss a little Heet in the tank, & see how she rolls. Best of fun, crazyL:chevy:
