I called dmv way back when to check on a 1966 SC tag I was looking at buying since we can run year of make tags as long as the number gets the OK. "Sure, you can run that tag". Fast forward to Monday and lady at the DMV says its a no go. Points me to the list of acceptable tag numbers and sure enough mine aint on it. So now I have a $20 piece of wall art and a regular plate instead. :waah: I figure since I got the list now, I'll just see if I can find one with the right number when I go to the Charlotte Auto Fair in April and do some tradin with someone. Oh well....it just feels good to be on the road now!

you shouldnt have any trouble finding a tag at charlotte, w were there last year and one guy had to have had at least a 1000 tags so good luck.

Thanks...only shot I got on my phone right now...and it doesnt show much more than what I've shown already. I did find a use for that old Mt. Dew bottle I found buried at our church.

I'm goin to a local cruise in tomorrow morning so I'll be sure to take some legit pics instead of the cell phone ones I've been taking.

Forgot to take my camera to the cruise in today...but I grabbed it when I got back home and decided to swing by a place just up the road from my house I been itchin to get a picture at.

First long trip (20 miles round trip haha) was a success, although I'm in serious need of some attention in the brakes department.

Been two months since I've updated...not much going on now. Just waiting on a few parts to sell so I can upgrade the front brakes to drop spindles and discs.

I'll probably have a few brake line/master cylinder questions when that time comes. Wanna do it right the first time.

I did get some new tires put on. 215/70/15's with a white wall. I like them a lot, although I do miss the proportions of the 235's I had on. These were a good deal that I couldnt pass up though, and will look a lot better when the front end comes down a little more.

Thinking out loud...If I do go drop spindles and discs up front, what master cylinder can I use? Will I need a prop valve as well?

Put the Egg Hauler to work yesterday. Digging up some sod at my father in law's to use at my house.

Selling some aftermarket fenders this weekend, and hopefully a carb too. Looks like I'll have some disc brake money real soon! :metal:

Ordered myself a birthday present the other day. 2" drop spindles and disc brake kit. Can't wait to get them put on! Do people usually paint the bare metal on the drop spindles to keep them from rusting up?

Still need a new master and some new hard lines.

Will probably go back to a stock exhaust manifold to help bring my pipes up a little close under the body. Love the sound of the headers, but they hang loooooow and I'm already scrubbing them on speed bumps.

The spindles, caliper, and rotors will all rust if you don't do something to them. Even painted rotors don't last and look nice terribly long though. You can fog paint over the rotor surface without worrying about masking. The pads will rub it right off where they ride, leaving paint everywhere else.

I'm not throwing stones brother. Paint it or not whichever you prefer. I've even powder coated a lot of spindles, rotors, and calipers. I'm kind of past that stage now though.

This is under my current build. The drop spindles and calipers are about 2 months old and haven't even seen the road yet. I just unboxed them and bolted them on.

Ordered new upper and lower ball joints the other day. Got everything tore apart, just waiting for them to arrive so I can put them in and start getting the brakes spindles and brakes back on. Also got new master from 78 c10 and stuck it on. Getting a little closer to being roadworthy again....

Got the lower ball joints installed today. Looks like the parts guy at autozone ordered the wrong upper ball joints for me so I'll have to get that sorted out.

Nice pics of your truck with the scenery! I need me some o those brakes I think I'm sticking with the six lug as well. As far as your new parts go I'd Atleast throw some sort of etch primer on them and even just do a quick spray an black or something so they don't rust up on ya. I know they weren't cheap...just my 2 cents. By the way happy bday!:chevy:

Thanks jmorales! I think a little primer and paint would give me a little ease of mind about it as well. You are right...they werent cheap haha. However, I think I got them for a pretty good deal off ebay.


I looked up the upper ball joints by the part number shown on the box, and they say they are a match for 66 c10 2wd. These do no have the plate and bolts that require me to grind out the rivets for the old ball joints. I thought I had to grind them off? Can the uppers just be pressed out of the plate like the bottoms?

Mine have rivets....prob a bunch of gunk hiding them:lol:, my new upper ball joints bolted right in....I think I actually still have the boxes. ill check the part numbers for ya.....my only concern is my truck is a 63....they may be different.

Part numbers would be great, thanks! I was probably a little confusing on my wording. My truck has the rivets, but the parts I ordered came without any screws or plate to replace the rivets. The part number on the box and and item description online indicated that I was supposed to get screws and a plate but somehow the wrong parts must have gotten stuffed in the box :waah:

Got the correct upper ball joints yesterday and finished up my drop spindle/disc brake install. I didnt have the correct disc brake 15" wheels so I went with a 1/4" spacer and some gentle grinding on the calipers to clear. Still have to work on running new brake lines and figure out the master cylinder. I put it on the other day and the pedal wouldnt even move when I tried to pump it today...not sure what I got bound up. Anything to look out for when installing?

Not sure how everyone else does it, but I found it helpful to cut a line all the way through the ball joint between the rivets and the grease fitting when removing them. I could take it out in sections with a chisel instead of tryin to tap the rivets through which wasnt working for me at all.

And a couple pics of the brakes installed and the new stance. I'm really pleased where its settin now!

My prediction that the headers wouldnt work after the drop was confirmed when I rolled the truck out this weekend. Headers are barely off the ground and the muffler is hanging even lower. Looking for a stock manifold now. Hopefully I can find one out of a 292 , but I'd take anything. My brother is supposed to talk with one of his neighbors and see if he wants to trade the exhaust off his 292 for my headers...hoping that pans out.


Also...can anyone confirm that I need a rubber boot on the master cylinder where the brake push rod goes in? One was on the old single master when I pulled it, but I didnt take it off when I returned it for the core, and nothing came with the new one. Im thinking I might have messed up.
