Very, very nice.

I'm curious, is it weird when you're done? Like when you watch a great movie and feel a pang of sadness when it ends because it's over?

Beautiful truck and nice job restoring it. Did you redo the suspension and, if so, what springs did you use?

Thanks, your truck made me want to keep it stock. For coils use GM P/N 88913388, you can still buy at dealer or online acdelco p/n 45H0075.

Your truck looks great! I prefer the original look and you must too.

The 73-74 grille looks right at home. Was it an easy swap?

I remember those bumper stickers from back in the day, nearly impossible to remove and usually put on while you were inside dancin'.

Are those year of make plates? I'll have to see if I have any of those around from my Texas days. Where in Houston are you?

I had to find the older vertical grill brackets that bolt near center core support and the traingular brackets that bolt to outer core support but after locating those the grille bolted right up.

Im in Houston on NW side off 290

Did you swap engines for the 1 piece rear seal crank or use an adapter?

88Jimmy4x4 04-01-2013 07:17 PM

Re: finally drove my 76 after 2 years of work

I bought a block already bored ready to go and i bought and installed all the pistons/rods crank cam etc. didn't trust the old block and didn't want to spend $$ for them to test and tell me it was no good after all. Went this route so I could get the compression I wanted, part brands i wanted, roller tip rockers, ARP bolts on everything etc versus crate motor

Thanks for the information. Did you do the rear leafs, too? Mine are aging.

I'm glad to see you got the Texas Vintage plate registered. Between that and the Gilley's sticker, it looks like an authentic Texas truck from back in the day. I have a vintage sticker on mine as well (it's attached to a flat magnet so I can remove it). I get a ton of compliments on keeping it stock and having the old bumper sticker. I imagine yours gets a ton of compliments as well! I love the look of the grill yours has. I think stock squares are starting to become rarer than modified squares.

WOW! Super nice truck! You did an awesome job of bring it back to stock look with some minor tweaks that make it better. The early grill is cool, and I like the Gilleys sticker as well.

Those seats look right at home too. I have been considering them myself. How do they feel?

Thanks, you can get the leafs from sdtruck springs

I agree, only stock squares around houston I see have a landscaping trailer behind them. Its hard to fight the urge not to lower it though, this will be a first for me lol.

Thanks Ken, cost alot using NOS parts and all acdelco or name brand non-chinese parts on anything but a few trim items but Im glad I did. The seats are great so far and very comfortable, even my wife liked them. Its not a show truck but I am gonna take it to a few local ones around houston with my buddies and hang out, maybe hit a few coffee/cars or friday night krogers off louetta (if they still do that). If you see it come check out the seats and try them out.

Very sharp looking truck and great job restoring it! When I came across this thread and pics of your truck I was thinking your neighborhood looks alot like the last one I lived in near CyFair highschool.

Is that a NOS tailgate band, or refurbed? I can't imagine it being original, looks new.
