well i took last friday off and got to cranking on the two-tone. my worst fears on this part of the project were realized when i started sanding the passenger side cab corner...it was rusted through. so with no time to run to KC to get a patch panel, i fab'd up some pieces and made it work.

everything but the first line of blue tape pulled, almost went back and bought a blue pinstripe i liked it so well.

and the finished product with new husky splash guards and the red 1/4" pinstripe.

i used axis for the epoxy, and wanda for the color and clear. i did get some orange peel, but that was my fault. i cleaned both of my guns next to each other and mixed up the 1.8 needle with the 1.4 cap. with 3 coats of clear, it will wet sand/buff out just fine.

ended up putting in a driver's side interior door handle. went to get out on wednesday and the cast part came off in my hand. while i had the door apart i found out part of the reason the power door lock on that door wasn't working. the harness had been cut and it wasn't even hooked up. once it was rewired, the popper is weak and won't pull the lock mechanism either way, so it looks like i'll be replacing that one of these days.

picked up another set of 454ss/sport wheels last week. came with chevy gold caps, lug covers, and good tires. just needed one for a spare. they are a decent set and i stole them, i may keep them and play with wheel colors. i would really like to put on a set of oobs truck rally wheels painted white. but i do love the 454ss/sport wheels. might just try some spinner add on's to the center caps and see if i want to keep them.

I love the old 15x8 Ralleys on these year trucks. That 1" extra rim width makes a huge difference in the ride and handling, even with the same size tires. The look, painted stock or some other color always look great to me. Yours will look real good with the white.

bill, i'm really torn on this issue. part of the reason i bought the pickup was the sport wheels, but the truck rallies are by far my favorite wheel choice.

I like the rally wheels because they don't look like the alloy rims found on 95 % of the vehicles on the road today. I painted the stock steel wheels on my truck red and added chrome rings and center caps. I get comments on the wheels every where I go and some are from people that are not car people.

so i'm throwing one more set of wheels into the ring. western wheel cyclones in a 15 spoke, or a similar turbine wheel. i really like the look of the appliance/w.r. grace "turbine" style wheels also. i like my vehicle to be different and i generally don't care if anyone else likes the way it looks. i'm old school and not into big wheels, but like period correct looks, or bare bones style. 15x8.5's are the size i'm shooting for, and i will keep them whether i sell the pickup someday or not. eventually i will build a 73-87 rcsb for a dd and these will be my choice of wheels.

i generally drive 'odd' vehicles that you don't see everyday for a dd. take for instance my 78 el camino ss with snowflake wheels, a shaker hood, and a factory 4 speed.

Only reason I would not go withe the Elco's wheels on your truck is having to used adapters. Otherwise, I do like the look and they would probably loog cood on your truck. So would those white ralleys!

Bill, the wheels on the El aren't being considered. More to show my weird taste in DD's. Western Wheel Cyclones are like the wheels on B.A. Baracus's van from the A-Team.

OH, OK....I had an old fart spell. Yeah the cyclones would look good. You can leave the Elco or Jimmy at my place any time. I like odd also.

I wish I had kept these from my 83. I have always liked them and figured they would look good on the 94 too.

Bill, those wheels would look great on your 94 for sure.

Both the Elco and the Jimmy have been sold to move on to new projects. The Elco had a super rare Hurst shifter that is specific to g-bodies and the Saginaw 4-speed. If i could have any of my past vehicles back it would be the Jimmy, however.

well the wonders of the world never cease to amaze me.

pickup sat all weekend, we were running around in the family truckster picking up school supplies for most of the weekend. noticed on my way home from work on friday, the pickup popped and shuddered a little going up a hill. it happened fast enough that i couldn't tell if it was engine or tranny, and i couldn't reproduce it. i figured my 200k+ tranny was finally showing its age and the torque converter was the culprit.

went to start it this morning and it would crank and not fire. strange...finally got it to fire and it was running really rough. i popped the hood and couldn't believe what i found. the coil lug/tower on the distributor cap had completely corroded off. the plastic and the brass. visual tests were useless, as the boot covered the plastic that had rotted away.

well now to decide on if i want an echlin, bwd, or accel cap as that's all that is available locally with brass terminals.

Nice truck. I always wanted sport wheels but over here no one wants to get rid of them :lol: if I were you Id go with bwd or echlin. Bwd has lifetime warranty and is typically made in usa.

here is the damage. ended up going with the accel cap and rotor kit. good brass terminals. pickup runs much better! i think instead of corrosion it just burned itself out upon further inspection.

my custom labels for the spinners came in. so i'll work on getting that project knocked out this week. i've got a wheel cylinder leaking on the driver's side, so it looks like i will be fixing that and addressing the front brakes as well. might even do the nbs master cylinder swap since i'm opening up the system anyways. and as winter approaches, new tires are in order.

looks like the lowering kit might have to wait until the fat man comes down the chimney.
