Re: Who here is daily driving a 67/72?

Well that was the plan when I spent all the effort and $$ to restore my '72. Commuting 6 miles each way to work, I'm only getting 8 mpg from a 307. I was hoping I'd get at least 12-13! So now I'm looking at the FITech fuel injection system but since my under bed tank doesn't have a return line I'd have to use the FITech fuel control center and it seems it has a vent problem on some applications. I do want to keep the original engine and it runs so good!

Re: Who here is daily driving a 67/72?
Been driving mine almost every day teaching my 16 year old. I believe she is going to be a much better driver by learning in this '70 than if she jumped into a modern vehicle with antilock, safety everything. She's learning threshold braking, weight transfer and throttle control at a much more mechanical level.
We find ourselves wanting to take the old truck instead o the newest because its a driving experience instead of a means of transportation. https://goo.gl/photos/c7QJagLgssQxLvEN6 |
Re: Who here is daily driving a 67/72?
I used to, but there's too many damn crazies around here and "rush hour" is too hectic. On a daily basis, I get cut off, pulled out in front of, and almost sideswiped by any and every idiot playing with their phone instead of driving. I have more fun driving it on the weekends. I still put a few thousand miles a year on it. I have a cushy 2015 Z71 to take the DD abuse.

Drive my '69 long stepper almost every day - average 5 days a week.
Like my truck old school because it is old school. Right down to the manual drum brakes, 1-bbl carb, and points ignition. :D http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...5&d=1315417658 |

This is timely thread for me. I am thinking f buying this 71 GMC 4 x 2 to use as daily driver. Our Winters can be brutal but they used to be worse 40/50 years ago when all people had were these trucks to drive. If I put 2/300 pounds of ballast in the bed, a block heater and 4 snow tires on it it would probably work for me. Does any one today drive a 67-72 all year around where the Winters are harsh.

I use mine as a daily, parked and covered the jag, and love it. My 70cst 20 has a crate 350, 700r4, front disc all done by PO. I removed the shell had it painted with new trim, and added a toolbox. I've been wrestling with a wiring nightmare for a year. Put an HEI in after the electrics all roasted last year, but once I get it fixed I can move on to rims and bed. Here it is!:metal:

These are the only 3 vehicles i own. I mostly dd the 55 in the summer unless it rains. Occasionally i drive the 36 nice dry days in the winter. I drive the 69 on rain days and in winter or when its really hot and humid. The 69 has vintage air, modern washer pump, delay wipers and remote locks.I'm thinking about power windows.

The only regret I have is building the LS truck so nice. I wish I could throw stuff in the bed and not care, but it has mesquite wood in it... The one thing I would tell you is the major difference is leg room. I'm not tall at 5'11" and I have Cadilliac CTS seats in it and it is still a bit tight. My wife and I have taken many road trips in this truck and even taken our 85lb doberman with us (I remove the center console). Can DD be done, absolutely! I recommend driving one a while before you tie up a bunch of money into one so you know first hand what you are getting into. If you already know, then go for it! |

My daily...I had a 2000 Honda Civic I kept around just in case. My truck has been running strong for two years, so I sold the Civic. I was worried for a minute especially after I went on deployment for 7 months and the truck sat here. My wife would start it here and there, but no driving around. When I got back I jumped in and she started right up and starts up every morning for me.

Re: Who here is daily driving a 67/72?
I have a hitch, 7 way plug and brake controller on my ls swb. the thing that would make it better is air ride to keep it level. I can't put any real weight on it since it is lowered but I have pulled a HD 16' trailer with minimal cargo on it. if I were to be serious about hauling I would get a lwb or a c20/30. my truck is more for hauling around the smoker...

Re: Who here is daily driving a 67/72?
Not every day but many of them (I carpool with my wife the other days).
I am forced to live with an LS in my wife's '01 Tahoe--no way would I ruin my truck with one. |
Re: Who here is daily driving a 67/72?
My '72 has been off the road since May '15. Hopefully in the next week I'll be driving it again. I use it daily from the second rain after salt is spread till it's time to spread it again. Pretty much March-December, 9-10 months a year. I wish I lived where I could drive it year 'round. I used to run a winter truck and a summer truck. I'd have all winter to get the summer one in shape and visa-versa. By the mid-90s I stopped running any in the salt.

I wonder why people think what came in them can't keep up with what's out there today? I mean how did people actually survive back in the day? The first pickup I drove was my '60, bought for $75 bucks. I upgraded to my '70 C10 in High School. Drove for many years, year round. I get 17 mpg average in my '72 K10. 34 miles round trip to work (1/2 highway 1/2 city) on one of the busiest roads in Montana When I bought it, I fixed what needed fixin' and some things that I didn't need but wanted. A friend asked to borrow it to haul some yard stuff (his is real new and only has groceries and soft stuff in the bed). We were BBQing with several other friends at his place and he say's "Dang that thing rides rough!" I simply said "It's a pickup, not a car with a bed!" The wives all got a chuckle out of it but the other husbands just bowed their heads. HAHA |
