More progress. Cut the bedsides down, fixing a bunch of rust and dents.

I soaked the bed end pieces in Evapo-rust. It's a water based rust remover and worked great. After rinsing in soap and water, I used Eastwood internal frame coating to coat the insides afterward. Since it's water based, if you don't introduce any chemicals you can just dump it out.

Hammer and dolly work. It's finally starting to come together.

I had small discs laser cut so I can fill the trim holes. I drilled them out with a step drill, put tape behind the hole to hold them just below flush and tacked them in.

Quick update. I've been buying some parts and should have the bed all together very soon. In the meantime, some eye candy.

14" 6 Piston Wilwood front brakes :metal:

Some updates. A friend tig welded the bed seams with silicon bronze, then my father and I did lots of hammer and dolly work to fix some oil canning and dents.

My father bought a metal shrinking disc kit which works to heat up stretched areas and then when sprayed with water it will shrink the area back down. It's a lot easier to control than a torch. There is still a bunch more metal work to do before bondo but its getting there.

We spent a lot of time fixing the contour of one of the bedsides that was pushed in. I made a form with (2) 2x4s to match the curve of the fender and then made a "J" shaped hammer to reach up under the inner fender part. The bedside was laid face down against the form and hammered to stretch the metal against the form. It worked really well.

I have some more hammer work to do and then I should be ready to assemble the bed and sling some bondo.

The bed and cab are together for the first time in over 20 years! I just found out that my father bought this truck the year I was born and got it on the road the year my brother was born.

Progress...

Finally an update- sand and sandblasted, epoxy primed. The bottom is seam sealed and Lizard Skin ceramic coated and I used their topcoat over that.

Really happy to have the rust repair done on this !!

Few more pics. There was a nasty dent right on the ridge of the hood that my father and I hammered out and shrank with a shrinking disc. Really happy with how it came out.

The seam on the front edge of the hood is also tig welded shut and I should be priming it soon.

Great work so far. My '65 was bought by my grandfather the same year I was born. Someday it will get the love it needs to repair all the rust that happened when I had to store it out in the open for a long time in the early 2000's.

A few updates. I lost interest in posting here because every picture is flipped. Then when I edit it and save, then re-upload they are still flipped.

My cab and doors are body worked, the interior and jams are painted SEM Hot Rod black, the PB Fab hood hinges are mounted, and I'm working on building the frame for the raised bed floor.
