67c10rustbuket, hey thanks, gotta like that big brown truck, I am spending a few hours a day.

Dingfodgy, I think I have enough to keep busy here

Hey zicc1835, Let me know how that trans works out, any idea who the original trans builder was.

I need to buy my 700r4 Trans. still, I have been looking at Phoenix Transmission Products.

I hope this will not be a hang up time wise.

I have some Centerline Rims coming, They are built to order and will take 3 weeks to build.

I just ordered them a couple of days ago, but the wheels are not as critical as the transmission is, as the wheels/tires can be put on at the very end.

I put a post asking who everyone liked as far as a Trans rebuilder for the 700r4, a few weeks ago,
No one replied.

I did not know if i was going to keep this post going or not, there are a couple people watching so I will keep spending the extra time to take pictures and post them.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Just bought this Trans hope it's a Great Trans/Converter with absolutely NO problems.

Phoenix Transmission Products

I read about them in one of the truck magazine's, the article said how durable and well built their transmissions are, and they build their own converters, and that their converter's were also very robust, and that they were built different, to be very durable.

They said I should have it in Three weeks.

I dont think i have enough work to keep me busy for that long.

I may have to buy the American Auto Wire, Wire Harness, to keep me busy.

Trans No. & specs. for 700r4 Trans.

#PT700R4SS
Our street/strip version features over 40 performance and durability upgrades and modifications. These include: high load capacity sprags, high energy friction and band, increased pump volume and pressure, and more to provide the highest level of performance and economy possible. This is a great trans for Streetrods, Muscle Cars, and Sport Trucks whose owners crave the awesome acceleration and tire-spinning, wide open throttle shifts this trans is built for. This trans comes with our High Performance "Torque Max" torque converter with stall speed up to 2600 rpm. This trans is rated 450 horsepower and 500 lbs. of torque.
$1825.20

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

In talking to Scott at Phoenix Transmissions,

he said all that is needed as far as power to the 700r4 trans is a 12V supply for the Lockup Converter, & a Good Ground.

He said the Ground could be a good quality, Battery Ground cable, From trans case to Frame.

Warranty: is 3year 50K miles, warranty,

and the Warranty does not start until the trans is mounted in the vehicle and running, and that can be down the road 1-3 years or more after the trans is received, just email the warranty card to them and warranty starts from that point on.

To me the BEST WARRANTY is the one you never have to use.

1. Lokar floor Shifter, #FMS6700BB 16" lever Clear Anodised
2. Lokar Auto Dip stick tube, #TD-3700TM
3. Lokar Carb. Billet Bracket, #TCB-40DQ
4. Lokar Throttle Valve #KD-2700HT

Now where to find the BEST PRICES on LOKAR parts

OK what did I do today,

Not much, except for pulling the front suspension, and front Frame, cross bar, pulled the A-Arms, dis-assembled the A-Arms they are bare except for the Rubber bump Stop.

I was tired and called it quits for the day.

All the above parts were taken to the powder painter today along with the other parts from a couple days ago.

Painter has a 1 week turn around.

I turned the Painter loose on them, to paint them all Gloss Black.

You should have seen how much Grease was caked on the arms and all over all of the front end.

also sent the Front and Rear Bumper Mounting Brackets

Here is a shot of the front frame.

She's looking a little Naked.

Oh yea I sent the Radiator out to have it pressure and flow tested, came back as Like new, Radiator guy said it was not a very old, in fact he said it was a newer rad.

My 67' was a manual Trans yet PO swapped in a Radiator for a Auto trans., 3 row, that was nice of him.

But too bad it wasn't a 4-Row.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Ok, I have been actually working on the truck since Last Friday the 20th.

Not quite a week yet, all seems to be moving right along.

I think i am ahead of the aggressive schedule that i set for myself.

At least the Powder painter is only about a week out.

Then i will be able to put the front Suspension back on.

While i am waiting for the Wheels (built to order), and the Trans (built to order)

I will start on tearing into the rear suspension.

I will also start on installing the one piece tinted windows, soon after the rear suspension is completed.

Problem is I am going to run out of stuff to do and have to wait at some point for stuff to be shipped to me.

American Autowire wiring harness, is having a sale, 12% off February 3-5, that may be a possibility.

Medium gloss or semi gloss as some call it, not gloss.

westgl 01-28-2012 08:56 PM

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

That is what i was thinking, that I would use the medium, or 60% is what they call it.

It resembles that fresh from the factory look.

Thanks for the reply

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

I did not take a picture, kinda boring, just cleaning the Frame from the trans cross member forward. I am probably 80% done. with the frame clean & degrease.

Then i started cleaning the firewall, I had some real trouble keeping focused on the Frame or the firewall.

So I switched to the Clutch Pedal, pull out the clutch pedal rod that goes through the firewall, i hope they make a rubber plug to fill the hole for the clutch in the firewall.

Got the clutch rod out, But I could not seem to get the clutch pedal out, slide the clutch pedal and shaft most of the way out but it looked like the speedo cable was in the way and not letting it come all the way out.

I had to push myself today, i just wasn't into it.

I did pull the Hood spring mounting brackets off I will take them to the powder painter on Monday, I think he will start on my stuff this week.:cf:

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

oh yea! I took the Heater core out, and found at least 3-4 hand fulls of leaves in there.

There was at least 6-8 hand fulls of leaves and pine needles in the vent opening, I may have to put a screen over the vent to keep out all the crap that can get in there.

Also pulled off the Brake master today, but i wasn't that into doing much.

OK so I guess i did do a few things, just not anything fun.:(

westgl 01-29-2012 10:08 PM

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks chuck3026,

That's what i need to keep my motivation going, I will post some pics maybe tomorrow.

I checked the Headers, to make sure they would fit, They Look good But the collector is going to be very close to the 700r4 Trans Bell-housing.

They are Sanderson Headers, ceramic coated, i opted for the short headers as it will be a 3.5" x 5.0" drop, so I wanted to make sure i had plenty of clearance.

I dont want to be making sparks, where there's sparks, there's fire.

I thought about putting a side pipe exhaust, drilled out, then with a really low pressure pump and regulator, put a fuel injector toward the end of the exhaust, and another hole with either a electronic igniter, or a spark plug, both hooked to a switch.

That would be in case a Ford was trying to pass me.

Flip the switch and burn his eye brows off, or in the case of a Ford burn his Uni-Brow off.

Just kidding

I received 5 more boxes yesterday, all from ECE.

Just a note there is a cable/harness that comes with the 700r4 trans cross member. I did not look at it to see what it was for.

I just keep finding more & more parts to go to the Powder painter.

I did work on degreasing the frame a little more, once i get the frame degreased to my satisfaction, i will take the wire wheel to it and remove the rest or the paint and any surface rust.

I may use the KBS coating on the frame, using their Rust Intervention coating.

Has anyone used this coating on their frame??

Here are a couple pics.

Today I removed the Bench seat, then pulled up the stock floor sound proofing/heat mat up.

I had to, to get to the Front Body mounting bolts as I am replacing the rubber biscuits. between the body and frame.

These were the Front Left & Right body mounts, you can see how deteriorated they were, the Fronts were very compressed and Cracked, the Rear ones, seemed to be in better shape, they were not as cracked up, as the front ones.

Here are a few pics.

westgl 02-01-2012 08:02 PM

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

OK, Removed the Body mount rubber biscuits today.

WOW they were really compressed, jacke dup the body high enough to get them out, but putting the new ones back in, I had to jack the cab up higher, as the new ones were at least a 1/2" thicker or more

I started by putting in the Right Rear, Then the Right Front, although I did not get a picture the right side was at least a 1/2" higher or more, it was very noticeable.

The Right side of the Cab was higher than the Left, it had a slant to it that you could not miss.

I also finished cleaning the Frame & the firewall.

I Picked up a Air chisel, so i can get the trans Cross member rivets removed, Ill remove that trans Cross member tomorrow.

There are still a lot of leaves in the ventilation system on that truck, must have had an oak tree near by.

Here are some pics of the Frame & body after it was cleaned a little moe.

After Cleaning the firewall, I'm thinking that I am going to paint the firewall 20% semi gloss black, same as the Frame, since it did not clean up as well as i would have like it.

besides the Black paint will hide a lot of crap.

Lets see if anyone is actually out there.

In the picture, is a Trans Mount for the Manual 3-speed from the I6 250ci engine & trans that was pulled out.

Question is: Can that be used as a Front Trans mount, for a 700r4, I have a rear trans mount from ECE ?

Didn't get anything done this weekend it's my & my daughter's birthday, we both have the same birthday.

We are actually 2 hours apart, she was born at 12:20p.m. & I was at 2:20p.m., & 30 years.

She came to visit from collage.

I believe that timing is everything.

I will start again Monday.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks!! Mud.man.rj

We had a great weekend.

As for this week I need to clean the rest of the frame, and get it prepped for a frame on paint.

I need to,

1. Pick up some Chevy Original Color Paint for the Firewall.

2. Get the Frame ready for the KBS Coating, after the firewall is painted.

Later this week or next week I should be ready to pick up the powder painted parts for re-assembly of the front end.

Today i got to use my Air chisel.

Since i did not get any reply's to my questions:( about the manual trans cross member, and weather or not it was needed for the 700r4 trans or not, I got no reply's just crickets, But maybe there is only 2-3 people watching this build.

I guess it would be better to go post it as a problem/question section of the forum to get it looked at by more people, rather than post it in a build section of the forum.

I searched this site and could not find anything, maybe it was the way I searched.

so I went to another truck site, they answered my question.

Anyway removed the Manual trans cross member, with the air chisel.

here are some before & after with the Manual trans Cross member removed

Yep, just chiseled mine out last week, didnt seem to agree with my 4L60E. I think it is quicker to ask a Q seperately than in a build unless you have 50 people watching you who have been there, I havent checked on you in a while. nice progress

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Good!!
Glad you guy's confirmed that the cross member needed to come off.

I did not want to bolt that thing back on anyway.

But the surprising thing is, with the engine out, and that Trans cross member out, the frame is fairly flexible.

I will clean the frame further back from the Manual Trans cross member tomorrow.

mud.man.rj 02-08-2012 01:43 AM

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Man you have more people watching this than I have on mine, I'll try to help. lol.. Yes they make the firewall grommet for the clutch linkage in the firewall but I forget who sells it, but I changed my mind to an auto so I never got one, as you are, so why do you need it with an auto? you just want the plug for the hole then right? that I do not know.

I think the frame is just a little flimsy because the front susp/eng xmember is out, It is the main structure for the front.

While im thinking about it, before you put the V8 in there you need to move the motor mount stands forward one hole, unless you like pulling the engine to get to your distributor.

westgl 02-08-2012 10:47 PM

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks to everyone that reply'ed.

Hey 67c10rustbucket,

I wanted a blank rubber plug to fill the clutch hole, now that I am going to Automatic, I don't want a hole in the firewall.

In reading some where on this site it said that the Frame to motor mount, motor stands are different, between the I6 and V8, and Thanks for the note about moving the frame Motor stand to the front hole locations.

Frame being flimsy, it is very flimsy, But once I have the three cross members back in (engine included) it should stiffen things up a bit.

westgl 02-08-2012 11:00 PM

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Today, I sanded the firewall with scotch brite, & degreased it with a Wax & Grease remover.

I also blew out the Fresh Air Vent, I thought that I cleaned it out pretty well before, I took out about 4 handfuls of leaves and decayed garbage out of each side.

But when I blew 120psi into the fresh air vent it blew out A LOT MORE crap, leave tree seeds, pine needles, what looked like Mudd, probably decayed garbage.

If it is warm enough tomorrow, i will mask & Prime the firewall. I may even paint it.

I received the KBS Frame coating kit in Satin Black today.

So i am ready to finish cleaning the frame all the way back, I am also going to use it on the rear end.

Ok side note,

I have Two Porsche 914's a 1971' Porsche 914, that I has not had much attention.

It has the stock Haha 80h.p. engine, I have been thinking that a Chevy 4.3L V6 230h.p. 275ftlbs of torque would be a great addition to this 1900 lbs. car.

Maybe a summer project, after the 67' pickup is finished
