What March bracket and pulley set up is that you are using?

Over the last 2 days I was able to strip the rear frame and weld in the notches. The notches are about 75% done. I just need to cut out the middle and weld in the bottoms. This was my first welding job and it went pretty well. The rear end is at the sand blasters now. Saturday I will pick it up and start on the 4 link hopefully.

Everything looks good,... but I think you have your centerlink and inner tie rods backwards.
The inner tie rod nut is suppose to be on the front side of the centerlink.
Backwards is an easy way to bend an outer tie rod.

Funny you noticed that! Ya I fixed it shortly after this pic was taken. Didn't think anyone would notice it in the pic.

It has been a while since I have posted. I have not been able to work on the truck as often as I would like to. Life gets in the way as you know. I have gotten some things done though in the last few months. The biggest thing I have going is the back half. I am currently in the mock up process. I have a Kp watts link on order but the four link is in. I still have quite a bit of welding and work to do but it is coming along. I home made the top bag mounts. Hopefully I will be done with it soon. I also have some Porterbuilt hood hinges that should arrive shortly.

Not sure if anybody asked, but do you know where those wheels are from?

I am at a little stand still until the some parts show up. So today I decided to take out the bed floor in preparation for the raise. It was a little bit of a pain in the ass but I got through it. I am still considering how I will get the job done with the raise. I have a few good ideas.

I was able to get the bed floor raised up 10". Looks good and wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to get done. My Porterbuilt hood hinges showed up and I was able to get them mostly installed. I want a drop member up front so bad but it will have to wait for the phase 2 build. Funds are a little tight.

So today I was able to get the hinges painted and installed along with the hood. Looks good! I was surprised Porterbuilt doesn't supply directions for the installation. Thankfully there was a great article on this site giving a step by step. If you get these hinges do not go at the install alone. There are some crucial steps that you don't want to miss. I will say the hinges work and look great. They are worth the money. I also received my watts link for the rear in the mail. I forgot to take a photo of that.

Thanks Abe! Ya the patina is what I love the most about the truck. It's pretty unique. I haven't sen many C10 with the black and white patina around.

Did a whole lot of welding yesterday and today. I will drop the ass end out tomorrow and grind smooth all my ugly welds in preparation for paint. Still need to make some mounts for the air tanks and put in the rear frame bed mounts. I love progress!

Got the rear frame completely welded and painted today. Lots of work grinding and prepping but it was worth the effort. I want to run my airlines with this copper tubing. What do you guys think?

Bodydropped and Bennett thanks for the kind words. This is my first build and I think it is going well so far. It's amazing how much you learn as you go. A lot of times the hard way! lol

Re: Project "Blackbeard" 69 C-10

Very nice progress on the suspension. I'm not sure about the copper lines? I'm thinking it would work fine as long as you have cushioned mounts to keep it from rubbing. I don't think I've seen anyone running it on here.

lolife99 06-24-2014 08:01 AM

Re: Project "Blackbeard" 69 C-10

Personally I would run DOT air line.
People HAVE run copper,... but it "work-hardens" with vibration.
Use quality fittings and air line with Loctite 545 on the pipe threads for a leak free installation.

Hendo 06-24-2014 08:53 AM

Re: Project "Blackbeard" 69 C-10

Thanks for the input. I have also seen people run alloy lines. Would there be any difference between the two? I just like the clean look and tight area of the hard lines. It is going to be a driver truck so if dot is better in the long run then that is what I will go with.

Been busting ass on the project lately. Rear end seals and drum brakes replaced. Everything painted and installed in the rear. I will install the air tanks, valves, bags, and shocks tomorrow. Hope to be able to run the air lines too.

I have all my air lines ran now and have moved to the wiring of the valves. Tanks and water traps are in. Tomorrow I want to test the airbag system and see if it works well as well as check for leaks.

I was able to run all my fuel lines from the tank to the carb. I custom bent tube from the carb down to the pump and moved the filter to below the pump. I also mounted the brake master cylinder and started on bending in the brake lines. All air bag lines are done and the switches wired to the switch box. Truck is coming along pretty smooth. I hope to be driving it in a month or less.

It looks so good with the clear coat on it! Pics almost don't do it justice. I Started bleeding brakes today also. I have several leaks because I did not flare my ends properly. Now I have to go back and fix my F@#k ups. Frustrating but that is the way it goes when your learning.

That does look fantastic. I made those brake line errors and quit trying to make my own and started buying complete kits from inlinetube.com for what I think is a very reasonable price and a heck of a lot less of a headache.
