I will be seeing it soon as I have some parts for him. Should the dash pad be black, blue or parchment? The truck is blue as are the seat inserts.

The Highlander Plaid trim codes All include a black dash pad, steering column (with or without tilt) and carpet. In addition the door panels, visors, console and seat belts were always parchment (white). Seat vinyl was also parchment and the insert color is determined by the specific trim code. So the ONLY variable color keyed component was the insert color of the seatcovers.

Tim I still haven't gone over to see the one my buddy got but he's been getting parts from me and so far is gonna stay fairly true to the Highlander theme.

Everytime this thread pops up I'm drooling. Waiting on those pics as well. Haha. I would love to rebuild mine as a highlander but it still won't be by the spid.

Ok Tim, I still haven't gotten over to see the Highlander Blazer but it is coming along. He just got it back from paint, got the seat covers from SMS and has a few questions. It is a YG8 and has no body side moldings listed on the SPID so does that mean no moldings upper or lower? Second the mirrors are listed as 1DF210 camper stainless, are the mirrors in the pic of Dirts72 Blazer correct? Thanks for all the info, I swear I will get over to see it and take some pics. I have a pic of the SPID on my phone but I don't know how to post it.

Good questions that point out some basic differences between the Blazers and Pickups.

While the Highlander trucks upgraded the Custom Deluxe (RPO Z62) trim level, Blazers upgraded the CST (RPO Z84) trim level. As such they were the only cloth buckets offered in the utility/truck line.

Since the CST (Z84) included the Custom Moldings BX2 as part of the option, they generally would not be listed seperately on the SPID. Blazers were not available with the upper/belt molding like the trucks were.

Yes, the mirrors included with the Highlander Promo Packages were the DF2 Stainless Camper Mirrors, Just like Dirt72's.

Blazer CST RPO Z84 (mandatory option)
Avocado 680
Blue 677
Gray 671
Orange 686

Promo Package codes,
Added:
A= YG6 Plaid Trim, Special Wheelcovers C10/K5 (PA1) or Chrome Hubcaps K10/K5 (PO3), Door Edge Guards and Stainless Camper Mirrors DF2.

B= YG7 (includes A) Adds Turbo-Hydramatic Trans., Power Steering and Tilt.

C= YG8 (includes A and B) Adds A/C and Tint.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

And yes this is Z84 equipped, so does that mean it should have lower molding? He is going to the Truck Shop tomorrow and wants to know if he should get moldings or not. You are a wealth of information.

SS Tim 04-29-2015 12:49 AM

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Yes your buddy's Blazer Highlander should have the woodgrained lower body molding set including the tailamps, tailgate band and moldings.

The Blazer has the molding set because its a CST! The Highlander package has nothing to do with it having molding or chromed bumper like it does on Promo Package Pickups.

Apparently Blazers used both the upper and lower tailgate moldings in addition to the band. This is not something I have researched (yet) but there is a thread IIRC about it.

Thanks Tim, that's what I thought but I want to be sure. He is doing a very faithful resto on this one. Not his normal paint it resale red or "robyn's egg blue" (in his words).

Anymore Highlanders out there?

Project updates?

Pictures of new seat covers?

I can add the following from my trip to the salvage yard today. Was after a cup holder insert for my 1999 Suburban. Sadly, I didn't get the insert I was after.

But on the way out I'm walking past this old van, which has the rear doors open. I spy a familiar shape inside the van. At this moment I'm skeptical that it is what I think it is but I go have a look...

Well, I was lucky. First gen K5 blue plaid seats with nice brackets and cupholder blue bowtie console! The console is a little rough and the ash tray is missing but I decided to take it anyway :)

Guys, Thanks for getting this link up. While not quite "original" as it could be it still looks great and will only get better with work.

516 Orange with 586 Orange plaid seats is a great combination and one of my top choices. YG7 Promo Package (No A/C) adds its share of options including DF2 stainless camper mirrors.

That's the one from New York that was on ebay less than a month ago. There was a thread about the aftermarket sunroof installed in the hardtop. I bet the auction can still be found on eBay. Matt

Those are the best looking seats I've seen in a long time. I just bought 6 yards of orange red gm plaid material to build mine.

Do not have SPID for confirmation but I suspect this is a Highlander. Was posted by a member here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=546857

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Blazer/Jimmy?

Actually I have that listed as "not" being a Highlander. Since I don't have a picture of the SPID with the pictures and links I saved, it may have been from a phone conversation with one of the two sellers!

Long sorted mess started over 2-1/2 years ago.
Was for sale locally, then bought to be parted creating a feeding frenzy but instead resold. Not sure who has it now.
Anyway if you like pages of reading....

Almost speechless that you have those details on this K5. Can you help me out with a winning lottery number?

Can't begin to tell you how much I wanted that Blazer. So I followed it closer than many...

Lottery numbers if I could do those I'd have a number of heavy pickups to enjoy.
