Mmmm, pretty spiny thing. :D Glad they finally got the correct bearing in for you.

Doing some mock up. I need to know if I'm going to be able to use my 6.5 serpentine setup. Man I hope so but it isn't looking good. Maybe if I didn't have the dual alternator setup. Idk.

Here is the original setup..

It does look like I can clear the x over pipe with my xmember tho..

Looks like it will all fit except the vacuum pump. Which is what people have told me so... Woohoo!

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...pszqfs2k2a.jpg

Did more tinkering, cleaning and test fitting.

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...ps24mgptfn.jpg

What direction is the vacuum pump distributor supposed to face?

I spent some time helping with building the plasma cutter this weekend as well. Also spent some more time working on the actual finish work of my shop.

I need to get an engine leveler so I can install the 6.5 without damaging anything. I have new motor mounts mounted and I am ready to get this thing installed and wired.

I finished the DS brakes. I need to make changes to the adapter brackets and clock the caliper some. Currently you have to shave a good portion of the top bolt to be able to bolt on the caliper bracket.

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...pssdjtgwry.jpg

The offset is turning out to be perfect for me though. I am not a huge fan of wheels sticking out way past the fenders and can always add spacers or whatever if I desire. On my 87 ls truck I built with the H3 calipers up front the wheels stuck outside the fender about 1". Not a huge fan.

So ready to get this diesel in and fire it off to help light a fire under my ass to make quicker progress on getting it together. Just trying not to cut corners and I still have the rear disc conversion bracket to design.

:metal::metal::metal: Hot damn, that looks gooooood. I'm also in the keep-the-tires-covered camp.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

First off let me say, I am tired of these busy damn weekends. We had 2 events this weekend, a wedding reception and superbowl. Those 2 events lead to me only getting an hour and a half to even look at my shop.

Guess what? Next weekend is our valentines thing so probably wont get jack done then either.

Anyways, one thing that has been holding me up is I needed to get trans mounted. & I didn't want to install it dirty or unpainted. To do that though I had to fix my water pipe and drain..

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psythnvjul.jpg

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psindvor0p.jpg

I still have to dig some more of the trench but it does work for now.

First round of cleaning on the NV4500.. Damn thing was dirty and all the cracks and crevices don't help. That was all I had time for.

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5cg5k9uv.jpg

The front wheels are now back on the ground though, so now to finish the brake conversion in the rear.

Do I remember correctly that you are doing to try the stock passenger side setup for the clutch?
What year NV4500 did you get?

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

Yes, that is correct. I will be using the stock passenger side setup. I found a couple people who have done it now with no issues.

Its 94 or 95, I cant remember exactly. Has the tall ass first gear.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

Cool. I think I'm going to try the passenger side setup too.

I will detail it out here when I get too it, which will hopefully be sooner than later but if you do it first let me know! I just can't justify buying that expensive ass Advance Adapters bell housing. I have also seen people drill and tap the NV4500 to accept SM465 hydraulic bell housing (which I have one of) but I would screw it up, I know it.

Lol I probably would too. I'm planning on anking mine out and not hacking it up. I'm going to try and mount the 205 directly to the NV4500 tail shaft like someone else did on here but I can't remember who it was.

I think I saw that too but I don't remember.. I was really lucky finding that 32 spline 208 that I found.

I think it is one of DirtyLarry's builds that you're thinking of. I remember seeing a 205 behind a NV4500 as well. EDIT: this one? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...9&postcount=32

92-94 NV4500s are the ones with the super low first gear. The top cover on the one pictured is 92-94, 95+ have a bolt on shift tower. 1995 NV4500s are a one-year only oddball: http://www.advanceadapters.com/tech-...dentification/

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

Yeah I think that's the one. The thread isn't showing correctly on my phone. Pretty sure it was Dirty Larry and later in his thread he ditches the adapters and cuts the NV4500 tail shaft adapter in a couple of places to make it mount up.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

Finished digging my drain with what little time I had over the weekend. I also slapped the fuel tank in and drill out some holes to use some larger hardware than 3/8".

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...pspud3h6qu.jpg

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psqu0lluye.jpg

Finally some noteworthy progress... What you see here is my model with my brake adapter bracket in it. It is the yellow part. Since I have no mill, I have it out for quote to get made. Hopefully it wont be too pricey. This is to get the rear brakes from a duramax onto my 14bolt so I can have slip on rotors at the rear as well with dual piston calipers.

You probably mentioned it somewhere earlier in the thread but I can't remember what fuel tank you went with. 20ish gallons?

NastyBuzzard 02-14-2017 04:50 PM

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

Its the 31 gal tank. I couldn't fit the 40. I tried but it sat right above the rear diff and was way too close to touching it.

Hah, I just saw the pic of the bracket on a Facebook group I'm in.

Just read the entire thread. Good work on it!

I want one of those engine cross members. Like seriously want one

NastyBuzzard 02-21-2017 02:39 PM

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

Thank you! I wish I had more time and $ to have more attention to detail. For instance, I really wish I could have built a new motor and rebuilt the trans/tcase for this build but for now as time and $ allows, its got to go in as is and hope it runs! This truck is being built to tow and made to work so isn't going to be spotless more of a nice daily driver. That's the plan anyways.

As far as the engine xmember goes, it will be available for purchase once my friend and I finish the plasma table and get things going on making our own parts. I have several designs and so does he so we are going on a joint venture, at least on the weekends to start out :)

Truck related, here is a better look at what the rear 14bolt disc brake conversion brackets are going to look like...

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...sf481n1j8.jpeg

I have one being made for prototyping so hopefully I can get it in my hands soon.

Was tinkering with motor some more and have some stuff running into each other. I also need to find a way to bend that chrome intake piping to go to the 6.5 intake...

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psuadxgiwi.jpg

More work on the plasma table, we have both been real busy. Still pushing to have it done in May.

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psduncklbs.jpg

Here's my buddy. We were both dirty from cutting/grinding/welding and working on it but at least he is enthusiastic! If you look close we finally got all the slat guides welded in..

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...psncxqfanp.jpg

I am also working on my own version of front d60 brake conversion brackets. The ones I bought need a lot of refinement in my opinion plus they weigh in as pretty expensive.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

I'd actually be interested in just paying you for the file, I've got a buddy with a plasma table so he can cut it.

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

You wouldn't really be saving any $, I mean we can just cut the flat out for you if you have your own way to bend the parts. I am willing to just sell cut parts. To sell you the dxf I would have to get some sort of non compete agreement b/c I do intend to sell these.

Fully understand the file thing since you'll be selling.. I won't steal your product. We do have a metal break too.

I'm not in a rush anyway. Just want to get one when I can haha

NastyBuzzard 02-21-2017 04:05 PM

Re: Let's Build A 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4

I can have them made by my current vendor but that will inflate cost. If you can give me a little time then yeah, I can have exactly what you want for a good price. With or without the buzzard emblem cut in! Actually that will be removed for our actual "company logo."
