My original paint 1966 is painted black on the underside of the hood.

I really enjoy seeing these nostalgic brochures and seeing just how much detail they put in these trucks. Sub'd, Thank you!

Thanks F66! So, under hood is black. Can anyone with original paint tell me whether inside the front fenders, rear fenders, and underside of cab is body color or black?

So I am just starting to clean the underside of the cab on my truck. Went outside and wiped in a couple of spots. Looks like black like the underside of the hood, with a mix of undercoat. The backside of the bedside (fleetside)and the fenders is black also. I have a Freemont built truck, and the firewall is body color. I can see body color on the firewall with the front wheels off, and black from the inner fenders, and some undercoating. If you are doing a factory restoration, you will probably have body color overspray over the black underside of the cab. Without digging further, need some help from others on the order of paint. Was cab exterior painted after fender install, when was the bed painted? Submariner616. great questions!

Frank

I have added some answers about my 1966. Submariner616, we might also need some input from anyone who owns an original paint 1960 or knows.... did they change paint processes between 1960 and 1966? Were their variations in paint processes between the various factories? Want to make sure you get the best most accurate answers.

Frank

Rocknrod, Happy Thanksgiving! Are you asking about submariner’s post or the entire thread? Just trying to assist the current questions. If the info has been covered here or elsewhere please elaborate.

Well if I had the sense to post the thread I was talking about I'd be in better shape. I was supposed to post this link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=455059
Pretty informative as to factory assembly.

Thanks for the additional info on your 66 Frank.

Rocknrod, thanks for the link. I went all the way through it. Incredible pictures!! I still haven't found answers to my 1960 paint questions.

I know some folks on this forum have original 1960's.

My 1961 has light surface rust under the hood, but overall it looks black. I can get a picture for you later today. I know 60-61 are very similar, only a handful of differences

Check with SMS Auto Fabrics

Saw this on Shorpy today, I'll embed the picture and the link to it.

This truck looks like a Brand new truck, but I don't know this generation well enough to confirm whether it's a 65, 66, or 67...???

A couple pics of mine, it is probably 98% correct, better than factory.

LT1 Burb, thank you for posting the pictures of your truck. It is what I am shooting for with mine. A couple of questions. What year is it? What engine is that and what color?

The original color on my '60 283 is black, unfortunately. I think Chevy orange would look a lot better with the black all around and the original white exterior, but I am trying to keep it correct.

So far, the only thing that won't be correct on mine when I finish is the dual exhaust.

Mine is a 65 , engine is the stock truck coded 283 with powerglide, it is as close to stock grey as I could find. I am unsure of what color the engines were in 1960 for trucks.
I have since gotten rid of those repop hubcaps and put NOS correct 65 ones on it.

One of, if not the best, examples this thread could ever have for a factory correct restoration of a '65 C-10. Love it! :chevy:

LT1 Burb, Is there a place to still get NOS correct 64-66 hubcaps?

No, you have to buy them when you see them as onesies, there is a 66 only one on ebay right now for 150.

I personally despise repop hubcaps because I can spot them from a 100 yards away, so to me , paying 800 for a set is worth it.

Anybody have a factory paint chart for a 66 C50?

The stock color of the 283 engine in my 60 C10 is black (unfortunately). Is there a color code for it?

Does anyone know if it is a flat, semi-gloss, or gloss sheen?

Also, any suggestions or opinions on brand and type of paint to use to paint this completely rebuilt engine are welcome!!

My vote is Gray for that year and engine.
