Spartan 100-------Don't remember hearing of that model gas job. I have an MH 90 diesel. Seems like the model designations are all over the map .

Yeah I've only seen a couple others on the net and both were old fire trucks. I haven't found much on the Spartan designation either, other than it is a heavy duty truck!

I had at one time (and wish I hadn't gotten rid of it) a 59 Chevy Spartan 10400. Had a factory 348/5 speed/ 2 speed rear combo.

Very low production model, not many around. I believe 1958 was the first year for Budd 10 hole (standard pattern) wheels on Chevy's.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

So was the spartan 100 the next size up from a 90? Like 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100? The largest I've seen is a 90

factorystock 04-20-2014 09:20 PM

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

There was a re alignment of model series starting in 1960, so the 100 does not mean it is in the same GVW class as the 90 series in the 60's. 1959 GVW for 2 axle 100 series was 25,000lbs, GVW for 3 axle 100 series was 36,000lbs

junkmandan3 04-20-2014 11:26 PM

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

That just verifies the confusion ................35000GVW is pretty normal with 2 axles..........12000 front and 23000 rear. Some of the early gas tandems had a very low rated tandem.

Then, north of the border the model designations are reversed from ours . I'll have to dig out some Canadian spec sheets to verify ..

As I've always known them. The one in the middle is a 72 last of the little window windshield.
My personal fave wide hood little window.

Today they drive the cars down ramps off the ships, but as late as the '70's I remember them being loaded off by a crane, 1 by 1 on a platform. They told me that one day they dropped one.
