Nah, I don't get much money out of it and usually I don't take it when they offer unless they won't let it go.

So BJ, that little core support holds up the entire front clip?

The fenders, inner fenders, grill etc all bolt to it.

Re: AD Truck Project

Not much to post about. It was warm enough to cut on one of the cab corners and remove the mess someone had made. We found putty, brass, and at some point someone just welded the crushed in cab corner to the inner piece. This was the worst side of the two. The other one doesn't appear doctored.

I was also gifted a new auto darkening helmet, so that will be nice.

Re: AD Truck Project

How do you like that helmet?

Re: AD Truck Project

I have not used it yet, but it has to be better than the shield that comes with the welder. I have used my dads before, that he got at lowes for 100 bones and I liked it pretty well.

someone say bbq?

bjcaldwe 02-16-2010 12:54 AM

Re: AD Truck Project

Thanks. It is slow going that is for sure.

I would say bbq this weekend but I will be racing in Enid Friday - Sunday.

My only progress today is I finished cutting out the cab corner. I am going to have to make a patch for the inner corner before going any further.

Stay away from the walls!!!!!

Re: AD Truck Project

Walls I do not have much problem with. Getting punted on the first lap by someone with no patience is more likely.

Re: AD Truck Project

Not much progress. I did pick up a rear fender, and may be getting a chevy bed and some doors. I friend of my dad's is building a 49 and said we could have whatever he does not use. The fender is not too bad, considering others I have seen. It does have a bunch of small holes in it. I am hoping I can find a way to fix them, at my current skill level. If not It will work well for mock up, and figure out the rearend width, and the back spacing for a 15x10 steelie.

MAN, this is the first time i've seen this build too... Subscribed!:metal:

You should have made it out with us this past Saturday... we had a good cruise out to Neil's and back... was definately cool to meet some of the guys!

Nice progress on the truck so far, I love these old bodies.

Re: AD Truck Project

The progress is so slow it is hardly at the top of page 1 lol.

I need to meet up for some bbq again. It has been awhile.

I will post a pic of the fender tonight... :)

Re: AD Truck Project

yeah i'll drive up for a BBQ one weekend, i'm alittle over 100 miles south of OKC, but still gives me a good excuse to get away for the day :)

Heck, I think total I drove about 200-250 miles saturday, I drove up to norman and met up with the other guys, then we cruised to Neil's together.

Re: AD Truck Project

Or maybe we need to cruise down your way for some BBQ Joe.

Tezjoe84 03-01-2010 04:11 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

I'm ok with that too, I have talked to Nico and Kaysenmc once or twice... i'm sure they would come into town for some BBQ.

I just usually volenteer up driving up to OKC because there more of the masses up there than around here.

plus, it gives me a good chance to drive for a while... gotta get in all I can before i do the transplant. Cruising will be alittle more costly once it happens.

I know one thing, I need to check the bed bolts on my crewcab and get some new shocks lol. I hate my belltechs I have on there now.

Re: AD Truck Project

With a warm day, came a semi warm evening. Also with a day at work where I did not accomplish a thing, I had to turn that stat around in the 4th quarter.

I started by cutting out the bad area in the inner cab corner. I then took a good area of the outer corner and used its natural bend to my advantage. I cut it a little large so I would have plenty of material, and material to reproduce the lip I cut off.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HLeOfaLeb9s/S5...2019.20.31.jpg

With it held in place, I then put in a few tacks, and used the hammer as I went to move the next piece into place. Once, fully secured I then got it mostly welded in. I need some serious practice. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have some shielding gas, instead of flux core.

These are blurry, sorry. My g1 has auto focus and have unstead hands lol.

I hope to get back out there tonight and try to make the lip. My plan is to make a few small cuts, and then use a hammer and dolly to make the lip. If someone has a better idea I am all ears.

Nice work Billy!
From what I can see in your pics, the welds look pretty good for a novice
sounds like a good plan on the lip, best way to learn is to just do it! :metal:

Re: AD Truck Project

Thanks. They are not worrible but their are not great either. I probably just need to be more patient. Luckily it will be inside and I plan for it to be low enough no one can get under it to look.

Re: AD Truck Project

I think it looks pretty good myself!

Your patch panel looks really good. I am a beginner welder and trying to get as much experience and knowledge from everyone. Thanx for the pictures and if you can shoot a picture of the backside I would appreciate it.

Re: AD Truck Project

Thanks. I appreciate the comments. I will get a pic tonight. This stuff is so relaxing to me.

I work with servers, and internal customers all day from multiple locations. To be able to work with my hands, and figure things like this out really helps me. I have a hard time leaving work at work, especially being on call. When I start working on this, or working and racing my rc cars, it takes the edge off.
