I understand what you are saying, sometimes if I do something "just for now" it may remain that way. I hope you are having some fun on this and it can remind you of good times. I can't believe how well that yellow paint came up - hopefully you can keep it. |

Since the tires just rub now, I fiqured if I went could go to a narrower tire and do some other mods I would gain a comfortable clearance to the fenders so I know I for sure won’t be any bigger of a tire. Since being 22 in rims options are limited especially if I don’t want to spend $1000 a tire. What I’ll ate it’ll end up with is a 29 inch tall and 9 inches wide hopefully won’t look to small in the big opening and also have the benefit of being closer to the ground I like threads with lots of pics so trying to do the same! :wop: |

Re: 1953 chevy 1100 gigis truck
oh, ok. i've seen those before at the dealer but never connected the dots. the dealers scrap those wheels but that may be a GM policy or something. I heard they are not road legal, is that a thing or just something the GM parts guys tell you so they can sell more spendy wheels?
|
Re: 1953 chevy 1100 gigis truck
The dealers are so pose to scrap them as there is no dot number on them. Have seems lots of truck run them, gm most likely didn’t want to pay extra to get them certified if they were just going to be scrap

Ran into a fitment issue when test fitting the hood. Flipped the hood over and didn’t realize there is a hood brace that is now interfering with the firewall.
Too late to move the firewall so I moved the brace out and it seemed to add some rigidity to the hood. Also got the motor and trans pulled out of the frame, hope to take the frame into work and give it a wash before I start to shorten the wheel base |
Re: 1953 chevy 1100 gigis truck
Been awhile since I was under the hood of an AD. is that where the hinges bolt up? You could always do a front flip hood.
|
Re: 1953 chevy 1100 gigis truck
The hinges bolt to the mount the springs bolted to the brace that I moved but I was looking at doing something other than the springs

I kept my hinges, but removed the springs and installed prop rods.
The hood sits very flat on the cowl now, without the springs. Just a suggestion |
Re: 1953 chevy 1100 gigis truck
Yeah I was also thinking of that, I think I’ve looked through your thread your truck looks very familiar. I also found Lsfab.com they make some mounts to convert it to gas shocks

Re: 1953 chevy 1100 gigis truck
110% jealous of the firewall stretch, something i thought a lot about earlier on. that extra foot well would be MONEY

Had a productive couple of days! Set up and got the frame shortened, I needed to get the drive shaft mocked up so I can figure out the trans tunnel. Got some firewall done before I put the cab back on the frame :metal:
There was a pile of dirt in the frame |
