Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
I am a Gen 1 guy, I take it a LS 5.3 block(3.78) can safely be bored to (3.90), obviously since you have done it.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
The iron blocks(mine anyways) was bored and sonic tested and all good.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
What method did you use to change out the cab mount bushings? Did you raise cab off frame one side at a time?

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
I finally had some time to get a video up, it's been crazy trying to find time for the old Square! I got a call on Christmas Eve about a very special baby that needed a home, so we added another to our family. It's been a sleep deprived whirl wind. Shifters are fabbed up, I think I will need to weld a washer at the end sort of like a shoulder, I believe that will help with the deflection, you will see what I'm talking about in the video. Then I got working on my crossmember after I received the transfer case mounting kit and misc parts.

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't be strong enough. |

Looks good! Keep adding to the family and you will need a crew cab!

Video update, found a nice harness at the wrecking yard, separated and pinned it out, and a few other things.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Good work. I'd like to do my own exhaust on my 3+3 when I get that far. We'll see how my patience is holding up at that point.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Thanks Marcus, I'm sure you will still have some left lol

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Loving the build man, keep the videos coming, I look forward to them.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
How to you determine your length/angles when cutting the pieces to make the S bends for the exhaust piping? Do you use math?

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
This weekend I got the core support back in place.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Good progress. I may have missed it, but are the K20 axles staying on the K10 and vice versa?
|
Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Thanks Marcus! Yes the 8 lug stuff will be staying in the K10 and the welded up 14 bolt sf / 10 bolt will stay in the K20 (trail rig)

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Cool build!
A suggestion on your mount. Run gussets from the front edge back to the fire wall. With the amount of vibration an off-road toy will see it may end up cracking the firewall without the gussets. Also, grind large radiuses onto any corners contacting the sheet metal. Sharp corners or small radiuses will likely tear into the sheet metal. Another reason to limit the movment of the bracket is, depending on how high on the firewall its mounted, it could start to seperate the dried out seam sealer in the cowl if it flexes a lot. Probably not as big of an issue where your at but up here that's an area that likes to rust out. |

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
What are your thoughts of the PCM mounting location? I still have to add more support but I think it could work and it's out of the way.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Looking good! This thing is going to be a beast. :metal:
I would worry about the PCM getting really hot right there above the headers??? |

Why do you want it mounted to the engine ? |
Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
I think it looks clean. You could fab up a little heat shield for it that goes below the pcm maybe?

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1
Thanks guys, I like the Idea of having it on the engine and out of the way, less wiring running all over the engine bay. If in the future it's an issue I'll come up with a solution.
Speaking of wiring, I started getting all of my plugs going and the pcm re-pinned. I did have to make a trip to the wrecking yard for plug ends but overall I'm happy with the 27 dollar harness. It's still a mess but it will come together, organized chaos! http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psnobdsice.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psxhbyacmh.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...pssfy0hrjv.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psqapgkejx.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps8vc79sxu.jpg An Idea of my lift and how much the axle has moved forward. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psydns32ce.jpg The Video |
