http://i416.photobucket.com/albums/p...523_135205.jpg I found a jaz fuel cell on craigslist yesterday so I picked it up. It is not exactly the same size, but I can make it work. It came with a bunch of braided hoses and AN fittings. Now on the hunt to find the adaptors to go from AN fittings to the stock fuel lines. The new tank also needs a filler neck. I'm hoping I can make something work on the cheap from Home Depot with a threaded PVC flange and cap. I am a little concerned that there are no baffles in the tank so there will be a lot of sloshing. |
Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
Without hijacking your thread what out repo grilles for the 4400? I was about to order a standard grille but realized they are different, and I don't even have the original one to refinish...

Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
I was watching the show with the Garage Monkey last night and they picked up a '50 Olds that had a patina like your truck has. Rather then repaint it they clear coated it to preserve the look. I looked great, like your truck in the rain.
Heck you could pick up a beer keg and use it for a gas tank, or beer for inspiration :) |

I wish I would have thought of the beer keg idea. That would have worked perfect, and so easy too! I could have just tig welded in the correct fittings and an aluminum filler neck as well. It probably would have cost less than the plastic one I picked up. I have connections at a couple of breweries so that definitely would have been the way to go. Where was your wisdom 3 days go? |
Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
Put the craigslist tank back on craigslist. Going to go the keg route!

We there you go ! :)
While your at it why not get a bunch of them and stack 'em on the bed in a circle for chairs and a table, then you'd have your very own beer garden on wheels. I can see it now what with a big umbrella over the "table" and up at the front of the bed a bar made with more beer barrels! Ye Ha ! (hic) oops :) I was puttin' miles on my Tahoe to brake in the new engine and rear axle I just installed. See my Thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=526090 |
Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
Not going to deny it...I'm a redneck. There will be a keg under the bed, and definitely a keg in the bed!

Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
Got my keg today on craigslist. Had to order some weld in fittings and a filler tube on the internet machine. Also finished scraping the rat infested insulation from the inside of the firewall behind the heater blower.

Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
My aluminum weld in filler neck and 1/2" NPT fittings are scheduled to show up today. Then the real fun of cutting and welding begins. I will have to fab up new mounting brackets and also some kind of shield to keep rocks from bouncing up and puncturing the keg. Sometime this week I should have a functional truck!

Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
sweet truck. you guys out west have all the luck getting rust free stuff.
did you try the tipper out yet? |
Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
Haven't tried out the tipper. She hasn't ran since I drove her home. I started taking things apart and before I knew it I had a yard ornament. At least the brakes have some pressure now. I don't know if they actually stop the vehicle, but at least there is some good resistance when I push on the pedal. Honestly, I'm a little scared to try out the bed. The wood is OLD! I'm afraid the thing will fall apart on me and I'd have nowhere to sit and drink beer. Speaking of...I need some folding lawn chairs to sit in the bed and drink beer.

Re: 1948 1 1/2 Ton Loadmaster
My weld in fuel cap and fuel line fittings showed up today. It would have been nice if they had sent the right parts. I ordered the 1/2" NPT and got the 3/4". The package even showed 1/2", but the fittings definitely were NOT 1/2". I guess that's what happens when you order crap from China.
