Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

Seemed like a lot to me as well. That's from frame to the bottom of the cab, not the mounting point. Being bagged I wanted to maximize my lift/lowering capabilities. And that's what got me the most.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

hey whatever works man. I'm assuming you mean top of frame to bottom of cab floor?
I'm heading down this road very soon. Been gathering parts I need and getting my garage finalized. Can't wait to be where you are. Its a great feeling having everything moched up. Feeling like a truck again. great work

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

wow, looking great. Is the one pic your ride height or max lift? how far off you got your running boards from ground?

you running stock or drop spindles? man the patina on them fenders you used on your tubs are awesome, sux you had to cut them up.

nice come up on the rims and tires. so fitting.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

That Picture is ride height. I made the running boards level with the frame so It would lay on the ground when the frame did. I do have drop spindles as well. The fenders I am using for tubs were really ate up on the bottoms. Not in good shape at all. Im probably going to clear the truck the way it is and roll. I love it

Man i love the look of this truck. Old blue paint is perfect! This trucks look at ride height does it for me! Laid out is cool, just not my thing.

Looks great... What did you do with the stock 50 frame?

Thanks for the replies and comments. 1lo67 I sent you a pm. I have decided to go a different route with the motor, I sold my 350 and bought a 5.3/ls1 to drop into it. Its what i wanted to begin with, I was just intimidated. I only want to do this thing once! so why not. Ill post more pics when i get progress done.

Well had a couple set backs in the build. Sold my carbed 350 setup and decided it needed a 5.3. picked up a 04 5.3L from a silverado with computer harness and trans only 750. not a bad deal for around here, Made me make the jump to the LS world. Of course this turns my deadline/goal for the spring time!

Cleaned it up and got an ls6 intake injectors and all the stuff to make the car intake work with truck pulleys.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

I found that motor and knew what I had to do. So i bought it and sold my 350. Always wanted a ls and the reliability of fuel injection.

Layedout,

Truck looks awesome. Nice score on the LS too. I have a few questions if you dont mind... quite a few actually, I'll number them!

1. Did you modify the cab mounts to get your cab to sit 6.5" off the frame? Did you mount the support brackets on the mounts in the same place Jeff suggested at 3.5 and 3.75"? I'm hoping to mount the cab as you did and still lay frame... I want to avoid making a drive shaft cut out.

2. Did the S10 headers interfere with the stearing linkage at all? I'm unsure of which type to get.

3. What gas tank did you use? I was hoping I could use the original s10 gas tank since the LRD 6 (bought the kit) link came with the raised tank cross member... wondering if the cab gets in the way.

4. What size and type bags did you use in the rear? I have RE8's but was told they might be too large for this kit... not sure if the size issue was meant if installed in an S10.

5. What size white walls are you running?

6. What motor mounts did you go with when mounting the 350?

I have more questions but don't want to wear out my welcome! Thanks for the updates btw, keep em coming!

Eric

Thanks man!

1. I used the blueprints that Jeff made. I used poly bushings which added a couple inches to the top. I mounted it as high as I could and still keep the boards on the ground.

2. Im using ls swap s10 specific headers now, not sure on the clearance yet. I plan on having it in very soon tho. I ordered the 200 dollar stainless headers off ebay.

3. I used the LRD kit out back and I am using the s10 gas tank. I dont have it mounted yet. The tank looks like it will have plenty of clearance by how high I mounted the cab.

4. My kit came with bags, I dont see why any bag size couldnt be used. I am using 2600 up front and 2700 out back i believe.

5. The white walls are porta walls. They are 215 70 15 i believe.

6. On the mounts, i am using a LS motor now. Being the motor has to be back so far its gonna be hard to find mounts that will work. I bought some universal mounts and basically remade them completely.

I hope to keep it going. Updates are coming soon.

Got a lot of progress done on the truck. Made some motor mounts and got the motor painted and in place. Couple pics.

Got my harness rewired for 3 wire operation and emissions removed.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

looks killer in there. them headers look sweet. who did the wire harness? looks nice and clean. I'm def doing an LS swap in my next truck after I finish up this one. One thing I hate with the IFS and racks as opposed to the s10's are the steering linkage. Looks like you should have straight shot to that pump correct?

Layedoutsonoma91 02-23-2014 12:50 AM

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

Thanks guys. The headers are stainless s10 swap headers from ebay. The wire harness was a stock truck harness that I sent off to lsx-harness.com to have emissions removed and have the computer flashed. They also put my car injectors on and made it 3 wire operational. Set it up with a couple relays and fuse panel. All I have to supply to the harness is power, ground, and ignition.

Re: You guessed it, 1950 s10 swap.

Got my rail covers in today. Getting some motor parts powder coated and then going to bodywork the firewall.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a82...224_163827.jpg

The new motor vs the carbed 350 I was gonna go with at first. Im glad I made the swap.
