I think if you take pictures with your phone and you plan on posting to the board you should take the pictures like you would shoot a movie. Don't take the pics upright, flip the phone on its side with the piece you touch to snap the shot on the right.

Special K, That's exactly where I am. I live on the Prince Edward side of Burkville, I can see the Nottoway county sign from my front porch, and yeah about an hour from Lynchburg.

I do bring more news Today. Well yesterday my Dad got the idea to go drop a battery and fresh gas in the truck and see if she would fire, I hit the key and she roared to life, and she sounded healthy for not having fired up in 10 years. Sadly she wouldn't stay running long, The carb was way to gummed up, and the float was stuck open. The

Someone has been into the motor, The carb is a Rochester 2 jet off a 74 350, and they upgraded to and HEI distributor.

must be frustrating not to have your truck at your house yet...why haven't you towed it home yet? alot easier to work on it at your house..

It has been a little Frustrating. My Dad works 7 days a week, occasionally gets a weekend off, been waiting for a weekend we can go over and pull it out of the barn and arrange to have it towed. Occasionally on the evenings we'll go over and play around with the Truck. If I had another mode of Transportation I'd be over there and have it out, and have the tow truck on the way. It sucks, if it's not one thing it's another.

If the truck is fairly close to your house and the brakes work and the tires hold air, you and your dad can tow it home with a tow strap, with your explorer....have done this a few times

Joseph2001 05-08-2017 06:02 PM

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20

I had that thought. I'm hoping he has this weekend off. The truck is within 2-3 miles, we're hoping to do just that, almost not worth having it towed being so close. Dad talked about driving it home if we can get the engine running and brakes & lights work. She sounded healthy when she fired up, she wouldn't run long like I said before, lack of gas flow coming through the carb, Dad had to directly pour gas in the carb for her to run. So now it's sitting on my desk waiting for the rebuild kit.

Joseph don't you have some older friends with a truck. Grab a chain and drag that thing home. I was always bringing junk home when I was a kid. Come to think of it I steal do. On second though you might want to wait for your dad. Start that habit now and you will be cursed with it the rest of your life.

As much as I would love to call up some buddy's and say "Hey come help me get this truck home, and hang out and work on it" I don't have any friend in the area, we've been in the Area about a year, but I'm homeschooled and I work, I'd think by now I would know more people. I have my buddies from Florida calling and saying "Come on Joseph, you ain't got no excuse, why ain't she home yet?"

Also, while I'm thinking of it. Is there any places I should look for a build sheet? I checked the springs in the seat, the cardboard in between the seat and gas tank is no longer there, and the floor mats have been up before, Those are the only locations I've known to look.

Moving away from friends is tuff. You will get it home soon. Got all Summer to work on it. I would say you covered all the spots for the build sheet. Good to hear it runs.

Thanks everyone, I'd love to have her home and working on her, things just don't always go as planned, loosing a job didn't help, or Ford problems. My Dads on the hunt for a chevy pickup now, he's about done fighting with both them Explorers. Maybe this weekend is what my Dad just told me, Depending on if he can get the weekend off. Definitely time to find some friends who have pickups.

Don't get too discouraged. The summer before I turned 16 I worked my butt off and put $1,000 together to buy my '57. I payed for it the weekend of my 16th birthday in September. The truck needed a roll back to get to my house so I had to save up a couple hundred more during part of the school year to get my truck home. Luckily I bought it from a close family friend who didn't care how long t took to get it gone. I got it home in March of the following year. It was an agonizing wait but it taught me patience and the satisfaction of doing it all on my own. I still have that old beast working on 15 years later.
It'll come to you. In the meantime you can plan and dream and look forward to what is to come.

Discouraged is far from what I have been. Actually I've had a lot of time to plan. The hardest decision is paint, I have no idea what color I want to paint her, Its hard to find a color I don't like on these trucks. Does anyone have pictures of the Factory rims from a 88-98 on these trucks?

Here is a pic of the wheels you are talking about minus hubcaps. Towing my dd to the shop. Funny how a new car can't be depended on but my 70 has never left me stranded.

b.sharp, they look pretty great actually. Parts geek has brand new ones for under 60$ a wheel brand new. I'm thinking they'd look great on my 3/4 ton once I get her home.

I'm not sure honestly, but you may want to see if you can get measurement of the center of the wheel to make sure it will clear the hubs on the 72. The 88-98 never had a solid axle from the factory. Might do some research if you haven't already and make sure before you buy wheels you may not be able to use.

Joseph2001 05-13-2017 01:29 PM

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20

57taskforce, I planned on doing the measuring everything before I went out and found wheels. Don't want to spend 300$ on wheels to find out they won't fit. I do know that the lug pattern is 6.5 but I'm not sure about the hub size. My Dad wants to go over sometime this afternoon, I'll bring a tape and find out. My Dad did get this weekend off, but it's Mothers Day weekend so I don't know about getting the 72 home yet, have chicken coops and horse stalls to build.

I think I know her name, not sure yet though. It's kind of an inside joke. I paid $500$ for her, but I ive found $185 in the Glove Box, My Dad and I have been calling her the "Ol' 315"

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20

Look on Craigslist for those wheels. People about give those away. You shouldn't have to be paying all that for a set of those wheels...unless like new with perfect centers and beauty rings. They came on ALL of them, so no shortage and not highly sought after at this point. They will need some clearancing in the center to fit the front.
