Whether he minds that or not is up to him.

I think it is one of those don't ask don't tell kind of things. If you restore it nice enough that they cannot tell if it has been repainted then I think is fine. I have actually seen guys run the white and blue California plates that they have painted the old California black and yellow, I asked them if they have gotten hassled by the police and they have not seemed to of had any trouble. I would not do it but it seems if the plate matches the registered car and driver then the that is mostly what the cops are interested in.
My plates in post #7 are restored and I have run them for the last 3 years. The front is powder coated and the back is just retouched with color matched paint.

Agreed. The boys and girls in blue have plenty of REAL things to do. We have Law Enforcement in my family.

Generally, if a scum sucker is stopped for cause, it won't be for an incorrectly painted plate. They'll have no license, bad numbers
on the plates (tags or *actual plates*), no insurance, beer cans or crack pipes rolling around on the floor. That might start with a
bad tail or plate light. Maybe a seatbelt thing. Or some sort of other perp profiling.

First thing they look for is a hand gun. So they can go home at night without a hole in them. Real life stuff.

So, if the plates are done nicely and correctly...meaning year-appropriate colors, or even *any* year that are correct, and the
numbers are right, then why should they care?

I've been stopped before for covers that have gotten clouded. And, I know the trick of splashing with mud before a bank robbery
(I watch movies)...Then, there's DWT (Driving While Teenager). And in some places, DWX, while "X" equals the,
"....we don't like your kind around these parts, Boy".

But, short of those ugly anomalies, a nice plate on a car or truck seems low on the LEO priority scale.

I couldn't find a TN plate I liked so I went one state north. I live in Fayette county TN so I thought this one was cool.

Those are mid 68 plates.
Timeline probably early August.
However one could register their truck as non commercial and get those.

Those are probably late 70; maybe Early 71.
My prior 71 SS 454 EL Camino ended in H.

Since license plate .tv and cr8apl8 no longer make CA plates has anyone tried these guys?

From the pics the black plate and yellow plates look OK but the blue look a little off. Anyone out there seen them in person?

Apologies for bringing this one back to the top.

A question,is it possible to track down a year and state appropriate plate and legally transfer the plate to the vehicle??

Id be interested to hear in particular from some MN guys as thats what I'm planning. So basically can I register a 72 Minnesota truck plate to my truck? Or do I need to run a modern plate.

In Ontario, buy plates used,$120, then send to DMV, to see if you can use them, pay them $255 if they approve them, then to get a sticker. $120.00. I can't justify that money.I just found out that the plates I applied for were rejected.I wanted to use my business name, and they said it was " derogatory to southern people" and you can't have.I am southern people and it does not offend me.Let me know what you think, guys. Plate I wanted "REDNKRYD" was going to put it on My 1970 C/10 shop truck.

YOM plate on my '68. Luckily, we only have to run rear plates.

I did a post on how to mask and paint your plate letters/numbers easily. If you get crummy plates and want to paint them, it's not to hard to do. :chevy:
