Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

Can someone clear up the confusion of the 400 on the fender badge, even though it was(supposedly) 402BBC. The glove box is long gone with the info, is the a way to tell by looking at the motor mounts if it is a BBC truck?

And a few more pic's.

I was super stoked to find a good working rear driver side window. The regulator on the 68 is shot.

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

So I saw this somewhere on this site and I am in love with the idea. Increased departure angle, less ass hanging off, and with 42"s in the grand plan. I might be cutting into the rear doors
I love all the great stuff and info I find here.

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

There are a few spots that will need addressing, but I have nearly al the pieces for the floors/kick panel/lower fender mount. I haven't decided if I am going to repair the drivers rear quarter, I wish it was good on the 68. Better look into that one. Recommendations on where to get a decent rear drivers quarter?

They badged them all as 400's even though it was a 402

Life is happening over here. I am in the midst of fabbing up body mount locations on my 78 K20 Burb frame.

Bare with me. I am not tech savvy with a flip phone still. I got to rob computer time elsewhere to post.

I will try to get something up soon.

Since photohack sucks.

Here is the 68 K20

The frame of the 78 K20 and the 70C20

I had to cut off the body mounts from the 71(?) C20

It looks like since I am using the front clip from the 68, I got to do a little something for the from rad support mount.

Body is sitting on the frame, no mounts yet. Lot's of measuring

Can anyone give me a measurement from the hei Dizzy to the firewall on a sbc? I am trying to find a happy median between the front cab mount/front rad support mount and sm465 clearance to firewall.

I can do that in the morning If you don't get one before that.

Mine measures 7" to the center of the cap. I replaced my SM465 with an NV4500 but the engine is in the stock location. My frame brackets are in the front set of holes.

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

Thanks LocDOc. That is very helpful. I was wondering where to start. I could not really go any further forward due to clutch linkage and floor hump clearance. I was hoping to be able to start from the rear two frame mounts on the 78 frame and line them up with the 70 rear body mount. It is only a 1" off the mark.

Pic's from rear most mount using the factory 1970 C20 on the 78 K20 Suburban frame.

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

Looks like I got the mounts reversed for the location above the rear spring/front hanger.

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

I would like to drop the body down another 1" and that would level out the rear section to have it almost flush mount with no spacers on the body bushings. We'll just hace to see with what I come up with.

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

Oh and the front radiator support mount is the factory 78 K20 one. It has the same size hole in it. Actually, all the holes from the 78 mounts are the same I.D. as the 70 C20.

Looks like you are moving right along on it. I don't think the body mount brackets will be too hard to modify.... keep us updated.

Front set of holes?
4x4?

I have heard that there are two different ways the motor and trans are set in can someone confirm?

Is there a 2wd to 4wd spacing difference in the engine location? Different firewall between 2 and 4wd trucks?

Re: Rusty 68 K20 Burb

So I am around 6" from the firewall to the back of the dizzy, so I was hoping to move the tub a bit forward but the stock gas tank is giving me grief. I am going to have to move and or remove the tank and mounts.

Yes, front set of holes. No 4x4, C30 Dually.

There are two sets of holes in the frame for the frame brackets depending on what engine/trans configuration is used. The 4WD uses the rear set of holes and the distributor sets closer to the firewall, I'm guessing 4 inches to the center of the dist. The firewalls are the same.

Can anyone with a 67-72 4x4 possibly get me a measurement?

I have been hitting up my neighbor for a few measurements.

I am trying to get the firewall spacing measurement to dizzy on a factory 67-72 4x4.

and the measurement from the hood/firewall lip to rad support from the center above motor and each side by the headlight. It looks as if the fenders on the 73-87 trucks are longer and I need to space the front rad support mount back.
