The rear diff got freshened up and my original fenders turned out to be in better shape than the replacement ones I bought.

Yup. Flying there Wednesday to spend a few days sanding primer, measuring gas tank filler neck, firing up new motor, maybe oiling the Elm bed wood, sanding stainless bedside trim, drinking some rum and telling fart jokes with classic rock on the shop stereo.
Should be fun!!

Managed to get a lot done during my trip home to help Ken with the 59.
We centered the visor and got it screwed in place temporarily.

I sanded with 320 the Varathane Clear oil into the elm and it blew my mind at just how much the natural oil brought out the natural colors of the wood. No clear coat will ever be applied to this wood. Once a year I will grab a rag and apply some more and it will always look fabulous.

The Five Star DTM high build primer in white flowed out nicely and sands like butter. Sprayed the under side of the hood, the rear fender tubs and the grill support panel. I found a grill support panel that was nearly perfect, so I am going to use it instead of the original one that had some rust. I used the DBX metal blaster to strip it and it worked awesome for getting all the nooks and crannys abraided.

Doors are ready for high build. Ken has spent much time on them and they look great! The grill support panel turned out real good too. Ken and I stopped for a photo op. We moved the box into the shop from storage and sized it up for disassembly.

We sprayed the underside of the hood, wheel tubs and blew in the edges of the grill support panel.
The bedwood color and grain looks pretty good with the Hugger Orange.

The speaker once removed, needs a new low profile one and a grill refurbishing. The steering column was not easy to get out but we persisted. The park brake and shifter box will get a fresh coat of paint.
The transmission cover revealed a previous hack/patch so I will replace with another one I have that's in much better condition.

The box fought us every nut, bolt and strip! Air chisel, grinder, cutting torch, water for fire suppression, pry bars, sledge hammers, cut off wheels to cut welds that weren't supposed to be there and a few hundred F bombs!! Taking this box apart proved beyond doubt that Dad drove this truck on gravel roads for many many years!

The stainless trim popped off and the chevron and spear came off nicely. Upon closer inspection, it appears I'll need to rechrome the chevron and spears.

Ken laid out some color on the doors last night! He can really lay it on nice! His bodywork looks perfect and I know he's not painting until it is perfect!
I took a stab at refinishing the bedside stainless this weekend. There's one spot that is quite bad. I think it got bent backwards (outwards) at some point. The picture here is before and after my work today. It's ready now for sanding with finer grits up to 2000 then the rouge and buffing wheel will finish it. I spent about two hours on it to get to this this point.

The cab just grew a set of legs and walked itself right off the frame! ;)
This a job best suited for four men - let alone two! I can't believe the two of them lifted it off! For the record - I would have gladly helped if I was there. I wasn't taking the pictures!
Anyway, Ken and his bride are off to Mexico on a much needed vacation so the truck is just going to have to wait for awhile.

We've talked about having it ready for spring so I am excited to be able to put some miles on it next summer!:metal:
