Okay so I got my '87 sending unit from LMC and bought the Delphi EP 381. Got them how I think looks right together, but I'm not 100% sure so I figured I'd post a pic and ask. Does this look right?

My 6L90 has very similar dimensions to the Th400. the bellhousing has a similar shape and the length is nearly identical, but the body is taller by about 2-3 inches and a whole lot thicker. When I pulled the old combo out there was a ton of room so I don't think I'll need to clearance the tunnel any. What are your plans for shifter linkage? That was the next big thing I'm gonna have to figure out with this trans, well other than finding a set of trans cooler lines because that appears to be the only thing the salvage yard actually cut and they did it too close to flare and use rubber hose.

Just saw a thread on here where the guy a l92/6l90 in his truck and he didnt have to modify the tunnel. As far as linkage goes I dont know yet.

it looks right besides the clamps. you need to use high psi fuel injection hose clamps. nice progress!!

I thought I had read that somewhere. Where can I get them? Despite the size of this project I'm fairly new to the hands on part of working on trucks. Before this all I have done was spark plugs lol. With enough determination anything is possible though right?

You can get them at Oreillys http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/fue...CJ01/clamp.jpg

Ok cool I didn't know if there was something special or just one of those, thanks for clearing it up.

mind telling me how much the sending unit and delphi costs you from LMC? might get them there too, part numbers if you get a chance also? thanks :)

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

The sending unit was 130 I think and I got the pump from the source that glock35ipsc gave on his ls parts list back on page 3. The unit cost a little more from lmc than other places but ordering the amount I did go me free shipping.

For the shifter linkage I have seen some guys on here using the... (Lokar ACA-1800 - Lokar Column Shift Linkage).... on 4L60e and the 4L80e trans. I dont know if your tranny has similar shifter linkage coming from the tranny.

It's $52.95 from Summit. Link: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LOK-ACA-1800/

Hope this helps.

Awesome! Your swap has a lot of what I want to do like the fuel system and stock manifolds. Have you mocked up your stock manifolds and verified their fit? Like you, I want to do this swap with as few surprises as possible. Looking good though!

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

It's been a while since I've played with it but if I remember I was able to leave the passenger manifold on when I set the enigine/tranny in place but I had to pull the drivers off but If I remember right it fit. I'll check this afternoon to verify if I remember.

Ok I got a chance to check manifold fitment and there is about a 3/8 inch gap between the flange and frame rail on each side. I bought "adjustable mounts offering an engine mount location 1" forward, centered, or 1" back and it's all the way back as is I don't think it would clear if it were much farther forward. I took a couple pics on my phone but can't see how to upload them so pm me your email if you wanna see them.

Ok cool, I will send you a PM. I will be using the Dirty Dingo mounts, so they have some adjustment. Also, I don't mind notching the frame a little if necessary. Thanks!

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Ok so after a lot of thinking and just sitting out by the parts of my truck trying to finalize some ideas I start to realize the oil pan on my 6.0 hangs a lot more than I'm comfortable with for as low as I want to go. Anybody else have some suggestions? I'm going to get a tubular crossmember when the suspension gets worked over but not sure what my best option would be. Ideas please?

I think the CTS-V pan is shallower. That might get you the clearance you want.

Will the pan on the LS2 Vette work?

lnwlfbsktbll 02-23-2011 08:09 PM

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

I think I'm leaning either vette ls2 or an f-body pan. Anybody use an aftermarket sheet metal pan? Don't wanna go with a modified stock pan because of oil capacity reduction.

Or maybe the c5 vette pan. Anybody use an Ls motor from one of those cars?

Go look in the Lsx swaps thread in the Engine section and take a look there --- I think there is a list of what works there.

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

The stock LY6 pan worked fine in my chassis...it won't fit in yours?

lnwlfbsktbll 02-25-2011 12:34 PM

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Oh, no it fits fine. Ample room in all directions my problem is it hangs lower than I like. I'm going to have a dropmember made kinda like the porterbuilt one but not as expensive. Being that the pan is just about the lowest point up front already I'm a little uncomfortable with that.

hey I was wondering which adapter plates you used and how you fixed your problem that you had. I bought the swaptech adapter plates, which look like the ones you got but want to be sure. My engine is not lining up with the motor mounts so I was thinking maybe we had the same problem. Also do you happen to know what part number is on your clam shells?

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Mast Motorsports now sells a "universal" LS oil pan they custom built that is supposed to clear like 90% of the applications out there. May want to check into that. Also, Pacific Fabrication sells a VERY nice LS engine crossmember which is what I used on my project. Build's coming along good though man - keep the pics coming!

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

I fixed the motor mount problem by going back to o'rielly's and having them get me the right part. The mounts they had listed for an '87 didn't match what my truck had so I went back and got ones for an '86. Thanks for the input on the oil pan, I'll have to check it out.

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

Sorry for asking so many questions but are those the swaptech mounts? I got oe replacement motor mounts and checked them with the '86 and they seem to be identical, so I dont know what is going on. The company thinks it might be engine brackets (clam shell motor mounts) so I might try that next.

lnwlfbsktbll 03-19-2011 08:38 PM

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

I used the clam shell portion of the mount that was on my small block and yes they are swaptech adapters. The problem I had was with the motor mount insert part. I could get it to bolt onto the frame brackets, but it was upside down from how the old ones were. I took the old ones and new ones back to the store to see if they could match a part for me. The first ones I got had me using the opposite 3 mount holes that it should have been.

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

okay thank you for the help, if your truck is still apart could you see what the number is on your clam shell portion of the mounts, just to be sure that is the same as yours. Thanks for all your help

lnwlfbsktbll 03-19-2011 09:15 PM

Re: Project 6.0 (my '87)

It is still apart, but the motor is on the chassis. I'll try to find it tomorrow in the light if I remember though.
