Great idea. Do I see flanged nuts welded into the frame?

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Of course you you do! haha we have been doing this for sometime now makes it very easy to mount things and if you strip it out grind the weld and replace it.

Yeah Jim clued me in on the flanged nuts for my project. Great idea that I am making use of. Thanks again Jim.

Steering wheel is a very cool direction...looking forward to see how you build the rest of it.

That's cool. What's the diameter of your steering wheel? about 12 inches?

reaper71 10-25-2014 09:36 AM

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

It is actually 15 " due to the connecting rods and the look I was after

Here is the stock G.M. column adapter it will be removed from a stock G.M. wheel. to do this there are spot welds on the flange simply drill out the welds and the adapter comes right off..

In this pic it shows the space between the adapter and rods so I will need to make a plate to take up the gap.

This is going to be the idea I had for the center cap I'm using a cone for a wheel so here go's
the first pic is of the mounting spots i drilled and tapped holes and trimmed washers..

This is the "U" I made this will be welded to the washers so it can be removed. The screw coming up is for the cone..

The final product..
so how it works is the U plate is bolted to the wheel then the cone gets screwed on and that's it..
next up I will be working on my door latch Idea..

So after some study of pics and trial and error I finally came up with the final design. using poster board for my templates I got them mostly figured out of how they need to work and transferred them to steel. the latches I'm using are a single catch style (it seems they don't need as much adjusting as dual) and are quieter as well. one company is (Rocky hinge) mine are U.S. made and are very well made. (do not use autoloc hinges they are junk) I paid 50.00 for them at a street rod nats in springfield.
