Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Thanks again, some information for 67 K10 owners. I used the original upper rear hole in the frame, then lined up my box and steering shaft. Scribed where the adaptor was, then marked and drilled the holes. Worked out great.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
I installed my gearbox and plate months ago but I'm just now hooking up the pitman arm and the center link. My pitman arm is too long for the 1978 PS gearbox I'm using. What did I miss in the instructions that I no longer have? Which pitman arm was I suppose to use? The center link won't clear the engine cradle.
Thanks..... |
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
You should be using the 1978 C10 pitman arm. Are you sure it is installed all the way onto the sector shaft? Did you install the adapter plate according to the instructions and use the supplied template?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Hi Capt fab, will a power steering box from a 4x4 C10 fit my 66 burb with one of your brackets.Very few breakers here across the pond and shipping one over is very costly.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
While the K series steering box will bolt up, the sector shaft is different and will not accept a C series pitman arm.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Hi Captain.
I am getting the parts together to do the power steering swap. I used 72 C10 spindles and steering column when I did my power brakes/automatic trans swap. I have an undated power steering box that is standard so I am assuming 70's. Can I use my current pitman arm on the power box? Also since I have the collapsible column, I assume I should be able to just mount the rag joint to the box. Please PM with payment info for the plate and hardware. Also any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
You must use the pitman arm that is for the particular power steering box that you are using. You can NOT use the pitman arm from your original manual steering box.
The rag joint always bolts directly to the steering box input shaft. That is unless for some reason you are eliminating the rag joint all together and using a universal joint. I will send you a PM with ordering and payment info. Quote:

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Captainfab I need an adapter plate for a power steering box for a 1966 C-10. Also, will a collapsible intermediate shaft work with the power steering box on a 66'. I know I will have to cut off and modify the steering shaft at the column. Please send me PM on ordering info. Thanks !!

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Due to an increase in the cost of the laser cutting, I have had to increase the cost of the steering box adapter plates.
