Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
enjoying your build thread for the first time and will be checking back on progress. Really like the way you're doing things right as you go along. Had a very similar 66 swb bbw and do miss it! Looking forward to the progress. :)

Now that I'm back from the coast it's time to get back into the garage. Almost ready for some black paint. I'm hoping to get the bed back together this weekend. All the wood is cut to the proper width which is 6 3/8 at the corners, 7 7/16 starting at the wheel wells, and the two in the middle are 5 7/16.
Here's the link to GMC Paul's site for the wood info: http://www.gmcpauls.com/47-72_BedWood_Info.htm |

3/8 Fuel line added to the sender to feed the fuel pump through a 100 micron filter. The word on the web is to use a Walbro pump which seems to be inexpensive

In order for the lock up torque converter to function properly a constant 12 volt source needs to be wired to pin 33 on the PCM. The switch in the image is a corvette brake light switch which has normally open and normally closed contacts. I did change it up instead of using the jumper I ran an ignition hot ( pink wire) to the normally closed side of the switch while the button was depressed (foot off the brake peddle state).

I ran the fuel line today so that it exits the floor by the original line

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
So I guess you are using the old line to run the return line to?

I really like what you are doing, mostly with the LS swap, and want to see the whole thing completed. The LS is my plan on my truck

I'll be watching from this point forward.

So out with the old. I'm interested in seeing what was causing #8 cyl to burn so much oil. It would foul a plug every 30 miles at highway speeds

Look at the build up on the exhaust valve. Is it 1/16 of an inch thick piston seems to be pretty clean considering how much oil it was burning.

So my garage floor is covered in SBC parts all of which are in excellent shape. The 882 cast heads are nothing special but because of the comp cams extreme energy cams .477/.480 lift I added comp springs, guide plates, and screw in ARP rocker studs. Next thing on my agenda is to pull the oil pan and pistons I want to see what #8 looks like

Number 8 piston was the one giving me trouble. But I found that the top ring gland on #3 had some damage from pre detonation or heat and the top ring was broken in three places. The engine has always had a weird noise on the rotating assembly. Maybe this was it

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Did you pull the short block out already?

Attachment 1696118The whole front end is off hopefully will be able to stick the LS in place and finish the motor mounts.

So I set it in there and now it's a matter of figuring out the engine placement fore and aft so that I can drill the holes for the motor mounts. TO BE CONTINUED
