just a thought it looks like your upper ball joints are riveted in? if so their factory you might want to replace them and the bottoms while its all tore apart

its just easier to do now then after you go get it alined and they can't aline it cause ball joints are bad

Too late! Everything is already back together! :) pics coming next!

I did check the uppers and they were still great! The lowers were replaced last year just before I bought the truck so I think I am good for now! I didn't even need to change the rotors.(which were factory) but I have a connection for a huge discount on auto parts so I went ahead and put on new ones.

She is tucking tires now!

Ended up closer to a 5" drop in the nose (not sure why)

I wouldn't take that overload spring(s) out if you are hauling a 30 foot boat with it.

The boat has about 800lbs. of tongue weight. When I towed last year she never even came close to touching the overload springs. Sitting still the a$$ end only went down an inch with the boat hooked up! I am sure I will be fine removing the overload spring!

Then I wouldn't really worry about the spring deal. Go with the helper bags "just in case".

Nice stance in the front.

what size tires do you have? I got my hangers in my truck but now the front sits to high! Looks like your gonna rub in the front.

Right now she still has stock 235/85-16. I will be purchasing some bolt on 19's and running either a 245/40-19 or a 245/45-19

Removed the two overload springs and two additional leafs leaving a total of 6. Now just waiting for the new U-bolts so I can bolt everything back together. Tomorrow I might start mocking up the new 31 gallon fuel tank mounts!

Some before and afters....

Truck's coming along nice! I like what you've done so far and that's a great vid of the Scarab. I have the overload spring out of my dually and it still pulls my 28 Pantera just fine. I'm probably going to put bags under the back for a "security blanket" though.

Thanks man!

Did you just remove the overload springs? I removed the upper, lower overload plus two additional. With 800lbs of tongue weight I think I will definitely need a helper bag system.

Do you have a pic of your dually towing your boat? I love to see pics of dually's hauling boats! Hmmm, maybe a new thread topic?? ;)

Great idea on the thread topic! The guy who I bought my truck had the overload removed, so I honestly don't know what he did exactly. I'll have to count the spring pack and see how many are left. I thought he said he pulled the overload and had another de-arched...

Anyhow, I'll have to dig the boat out of storage within the next couple weeks to pull the motor back out and then I'll take and post a pic!

What do you have for a power plant in the boat?

Is there any details or a thread on how to do this fuel filler mod behind the tail light?

I haven't found one for the 73-87. Several guys have done it over in the 67-72 thread. I will be posting plenty of pictures as I do mine. There are several ways to do it. The filler I think will be the easy part, the hard part will be getting the light to hinge properly. I think I am going to modify a regular bed gas door hinge and attach it to the light housing. I will then use magnetic catches to keep the lens closed.

Stay tuned!

As for the filler door ... check out the stock 1956 chevy 210 style set up ... it's "factory". It might give you some guidence.

I was thinking of a suburban tank myself. You must have removed the inboard shocks as they are in the way? Where did you move them?
