Next the dashboard pad. It's original not recovered and while in great condition it was repainted grey at some point in the past so I figured it would be better just to repaint one more time, adding in the correct trim and functioning vents and now going black. Before and after.

Quick updates. Popped into the bodyshop. They had completed some welding on passenger door hinges where there was a crack and the door was floating about a bit. I took a pic but forgot to save it - doh! They have a new (old) right fender that I dragged from the pick n pull as opposed to going with new made reproduction.

On stuff I've done, per another thread I used my old bed walls as a template and made some new ones using 5/8" plywood. I still have to figure out how to reproduce the attached curved metal plates which are rusted through before re- carpetting them. I would be MOST interested if anyone has ever made bed walls that have access to store gear, jack, cables or truck gun in the walls? Any solutions out there for this?

So finally figured out how to fix the rusted away brackets. Didn't want to spend any money and it didn't have to be pretty as they're going under carpet. But they do need to support the carpet so it can't be pushed through and stretched away from other places they're affixed. I used some Fiber glass sheet cut roughly to size, soaked it in flexible marine epoxy resin and hardener (very useful stuff), and then held it in place for 24 hours with clamps over two pieces of paper which of course the epoxy stuck to. Not perfect but they'll last as long as the truck does if not longer.

Re: Got one.

They are rivetted to the side walls of the bed. the curve fits against the curve of the post behind the doors so there is no gap between the wall and the post and you don't have to bend the wall to eliminate the gap.

Update. Truck at body shop. On the way I had to fill up and got pissed at the vertical gas fill that means I have to hold the gas hose all the time. This inspired me to look again at Gclark1s truck with the modern filler cap. thanks to krazyray for selling me the stuff form an 86 burb. Also hit up pick n pull and got a decent right fender which will be going on it. You can see in the second pic the original color which this will be going back to.

Great job! I'm heading to our body shop today to see what kind of price they will give me for some rust repair. I also have two front fenders from another truck for the rust up there. Was the body shop OK with you bring in other parts from other trucks?

They were, these guys are absolutely great. One addition, I also today bought a GMC Yukon 3rd row of seats in black leather from ebay. Looking now for the brackets and a plans to get them fitted using the existing bolts.

Another little thing done. I found two of the armrests that sit on the rear wheel wells and got them recovered in the same leather as the front seats. Now all I need is the rest of theh truck interior to put em in. Ebay FTW at $30 though.

Latest update. Been humming and haaaing about going softtopper Full time or keeping the hard top. I figures I should at least have the hard top correct, so I had to do a couple of crack repairs in the rails before it gets properly refinished enough to paint. i failed to get a pic of the crack, but there was one on each side. I use marine epoxy on glass cloth as its flexible and SUPER tough. Sand down about 1mm and 3/4 inch or more either side of the crack, cut a piece of Fiberglass to fit. Use epoxy and a sheet of paper on top to enable me to use a clamp. Remove wood, wet and rub off paper and minimal sanding is needed.

This will take a tiny bit of sanding to trim the edges so they are not proud and tis done. Ready to be carried (somehow) to body shop for painting

Nothing recent. truck is with bodyshop for prep and paint - been there months and months but i can't actually afford to pay for it so it's with a friend who is doing a favor so I can't be pushy. Been collecting Yukon rear seats, carpetss and interior bits n bobs etc ready for when i get it back and now a waiting game.

Finally some updates on the bodywork. My friend called me last night to say that he had hired a couple of extra resources so he would be able to put some extra work into the Blazer after hours so I popped by to see how it was going. Mostly down to bare metal all around now.

I did see something interesting though. It appears that from the factory this truck had tie down plates fitted to the sides of the bed. These have been filled well by welding the holes but there are 3 or 4 on each side of the bed - same on both sides (rough locations marked by red Xs here). Does this mean that this was originally a camper version or something??

Re: Got one.

Nice progress. I haven't ever seen those cleats on a Blazer from the factory. More likely a PO bolted some on.

And the latest, rust resistant primer on the bare metal while other areas get looked at and prepped. Pics include the tailgate tailgate and the newer gas filler cap area.

Re: Got one.

Dear Staff.
I was actually requesting ideas as to what i could build to hold the spare and clearly phrased it incorrectly.

So I reiterate, if anybody has any ideas or pictures of stuff they've built that holds their spare tire please feel free to contirbute pictures here so that I may learn (NOT buy).

Thanks for the clarification, asking someone for extras to have, does constitute a wanted ad, and that is why it was removed.
