Re: High School Build Project III

I haven't seen the weatherstrip yet, but the holidays may have it delayed - I'll let you know when I get it |
Re: High School Build Project III
Thats awesome, We didn't do anything close to this in high school auto tech. Our biggest task was tearing down and re assembling a lawn mower.... Keep up the good work!

We are going to put off finishing the truck until next school year
We are in a solar powered go cart competition with 17 other schools in upper east TN. The program is through a grant. Each school is given a stripped down go cart, racing seat, safety harness, 24 volt motor, and an allowance to spend on components to finish it. When finished, we take it to Bristol Motor Speedway in May to compete in a 1/4 drag race and a 8 mile endurance race with 4 students doing all of the racing This should be interesting, fun, and challenging for all of us If anyone has any insight on anything- please help us out Here is where we are at today |
Re: High School Build Project III
Awesome!!! I'm not much help in the way of suggestions at this point, but looking forward to see this come together!
What are the rules as to what you can and cannot do to the go cart for the race (other than no gas-powered motor lol)? |
Re: High School Build Project III
We were given a 24 volt motor
We got pick our solar panel No suspension or frame modification but can weld or bolt on bracket Use stock tires Battery configuration is up to us - probably gonna do 2 big 12 volt batteries |
Re: High School Build Project III
Can the stock tires be worn out? (perhaps a bit prematurely?) ;) I'm thinkin' you want to reduce rolling resistance as much as possible by eliminating the aggressive tread.
Make sure all of the bearings are really smooth......again, to reduce rolling resistance as much as possible. Think light! I'm not sure if aero will come into play too much, but I'd be tempted to explore a really lightweight body or fairings to take as much drag out of the equation as possible as well. That's all I have off the top of my head..........it sounds like a fun project! |
