Truck is going to be exhibited at the air show at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas on September. I updated looks to reflect more on how it'd appear in 1950. Of course it was nice and vibrant blue back then. To repaint it today would mean all original 'badging' would be lost.

I can say without hesitation I love the truck. Having spent the last 22 years (and counting) in aircraft maintenance with the Air Force, I have a soft spot for this truck. So glad you were able to retain the painted lettering.

Thanks for preserving its history!!

I like your build, I am working on an Army rat rod myself. s10 with code 504 kit installed, working on LS1 install at this time. my plan is to be o.d. green with an Army star on the doors. Keep up the nice work I will be interested in seeing the progress.

Nice Job. I wish I could have saved any of the original USAF markings on my 54 but they were gone before i got it. FWIW The tire pressure and speed limit markings had not changed during my time in the AF 69-73. I even had to stencil and rattle can some of them on the 60's Dodges we had at the time. BTW these trucks were also used to tow smaller jets like the t33 when tow tugs weren't available.

It's a cool vision you had for this truck. I like figuring out an "angle" on a project and then building toward that end. This one took a lot of creativity and I enjoyed reading the thread.

Truck stayed inside this huge hangar one night. When fired up it resonated nicely throughout the structure.

All I can say is WOW that truck is awesome. Lots of preserved history there. I wish I would have known about the airshow in Wichita, I would have made the drive to see it. We are having a airshow and dragraces in Great Bend Kansas the end of the month, they are calling it the Mega Motor weekend. The 2 airworthy B-29's are supposed to be there. I'm really looking forward to seeing "Doc" the B-29 that just returned to the air in 2016 after sitting in the AZ desert for decades. The next time the truck comes back "home" please post something on the board and hopefully I won't miss it.

I will post future plans for sure. Would like to bring it to a Wichita car show in the future. My brother-in-law Calvin is planning on going to Great Bend and plunk down $600.00 for a ride in "Doc". Wish I could attend.

Attached is a link from another site showing a 1951 Ford from McConnell. Look at the tailgate on it and you'll see how much painting over that went on with these rigs. I was able to find ITA on the rear of mine. Most likely came from WICHITA A.F.B. which was the name of the base until 1954.

This is the crated original 216 engine, 3-speed transmission, and other components. Differential was too large to fit but I kept it as well.
