35. Taking heads off: take out upper and lower bolts on exterior of head, then take off rocker arm cover and remove the head bolts inside.

36. Need to remove the rocker arms, pins & ledge in order to get to the head bolts. Put these internal parts in order so they can be reassembled in the same spot they were taken from.

37. Drivers side is the same way but you need to remove the fuel rail stop if you haven't taken it off already.

38. Interior rocker rail was installed upside down on my motor. I'm going to put it back in this way.

This is kind of cool: http://www.gm-trucks.com/rpo-code-lookup/?find=29u

Its a website to decode your RPO codes!!

I just verified I have a 3.08:1 (GU4) so I think I'll be looking for a 3.42:1

Well, it now rolls....so I'm calling this post "the end of Chapter 2"

I put the wheels on for now so I can move it around the garage a bit better and I think it looks pretty good. I have no idea how the clearances will be yet in the fenders but that is a surprise I guess for later on!:smoke:

I did figure out why the cross link was rubbing in the front (needed to be tightened up to spec) and now I have a list for the next two months (if time allows):

- get order in for parts for next steps, especially motor gaskets and sensors
- get motor cleaned up and painted

- decide on brakes
- order brake parts (if needed)
- get brake lines routed

- get gas tanks painted & installed
- decided on lines, valves, etc etc and order if needed

- decide on radiator and fan set up, order parts if needed

- receive engine parts, reassemble and drop it in with tranny
- adjust tranny cross member
- figure out rear diff and drive shaft

- Then, it will be time to move on to body work......:sumo:

One other thing....here are 2 purchases made on sale last month that are getting good use from me:

- my little sandblaster (good for the small stuff (boths and small shields)
- my hand cart (I love these things and will use it all the time!!)

;)

Thanks guys! I've been busy painting the gas tanks and straps but nothing really to take photos of yet....really been trying to put together a buy list for the parts I'm going to need soon.

Has been supremely frustrating to get the 'right' info for my situation but I'm on the right track now thanks to other forum members (check my other threads to see what I mean!)

More updates soon!

This is what I feel like trying to put together a parts list from all over....it's frustrating!! I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to drop the engine off at ProStock and tell them you do it up & spend up to this much $x !!

Parts are now starting to arrive....going to be getting on this truck build again soon...

Been busy though lately...this is a few weeks ago trying to clear a path to my shed where I have some parts.

The front of the house was drifted in, the roads were terrible and now there is a big ice pile infront of my driveway where the city cleared the crescent.

Hope spring comes early!

Not gonna lie, right now after almost wiping out on the solid ice sidewalks on the walk to the University, that snow is kinda looking appealing ..... Am I crazy?

Mounting a 4L80E transmission:

here are some links that I was sent regarding bolting up a 4L80E to a LS motor. Some of these are better than others.

Well, after 2 months I got a little more done today.

Most of the parts I've ordered are in, I just need to make some room in the garage in order to do work --- but the parts are in the way!!

Here I got the tanks on --- for newbies like me the tank straps are two different lengths, long ones in the rear, short ones in front.

Filler neck goes towards the rear, it also helps to bend down the joint edge a bit with a rubber mallet so the straps reach in order to start the nut.

The smooth rivetts should face down so they don't rub the tank (but in the front it doesn't touch so it doesn't really matter).

I bought gas tank anti-sqeek kit from LMC for $20 --- don't bother, its just some fat tar paper cut to length --- you could buy a whole roll for that much!

Anyways, here's a bit of my home office with parts strewn around & my garage work bench --- slowly getting there!

Going to start putting the engine back together this weekend and get it in there soon....might run fuel lines first though.
