Here's another one from 1966 with the same truck in the background. Different racecar by then.

Geez - those pictures are great! I see that you had stepped up to a Hemi by then.

I forgot to mention - I worked with a friend and his first job was "fitting the hoods" on the line in Flint on the 1960 Chevy pickups....

...which he did with a giant rubber mallet...

(lol)

I was just thinking yesterday that we need nostalgic pics.
Pics, Brochures, anything about these trucks from the past.

Here's my contribution:

There is the photo ad I was refering to, the truck is a '64 ( notice white steering wheel) the emblems were drawn in.

My dad built the die used to manufacture the grille in that truck.

It had small rectangular punches to form the grid pattern, and those punches were prone to breaking off (which causes you to run scrap parts).

Some of you might be familiar with the GM Suggestion program, where submitters could be paid for ideas that saved the corporation money: Dad made enough in suggestion money off that grille project that he was able to pay cash for our first pickup, a '69 GMC.

I love it! To me, that was the Golden Years of drag racing. My family campaigned a '55 Chevy D/Gas car back in that era, and those memories have stuck with me for a lifetime.

The closest thing I can do now to relate to that time is to go to the March Meet and the Hot Rod Happening at Bakersfield. Front engined dragsters and AA/Fuel Altereds.......it don't get much better than that!

Very cool pics ..... I had a guy come up to me last week and ask me " is that a 66"? He said he could remember assembling these exact trucks on the line back in 66. He aslo pointed out that his 66 with a 283 got better mileage than his new truck( he was driving a late model GM 1/2 ton) which didn't make sense with today's technology.

Seems every time I take this truck out there is a story.....

Very cool thread. thanks
