Re: '71 K/20 Build Thread

Almost back on the road! Last night we got the new rotors put on. Ran into some problems with the little washer that goes inside the hub, apparently somebody had it apart before and boogered up the keyway on the washer, and some threads on the spindle...

But we got a new washer and it all worked out. :D

So we basically just have to put the new steering box in, and find a new steering pump, and it's pretty much ready to go. Can't start it because I snapped the oil line going up to the gauge...

Doing great work on bringing truck back to its former glory. Keep it up and the truck will last for years to come.

What year of truck is the tilt column from?

Re: '71 K/20 Build Thread

Thank you!

The tilt column is the CPP repro from Brothers. However I had to take it back out, it would not line up straight because it was put together wrong. We'll eventually pull it apart and get it straightened back out. In the meantime, I painted the original non-tilt black and put that in.

Brakes are A LOT better, steering is better but still need to be fine-tuned. Overall, much better truck to drive :)

Thanks! I haven't updated the thread at all, haven't really done much of anything worth updating about

This winter, the engine is coming out and we're gonna put better heads and maybe a roller camshaft in :metal:

Bummer. The truck is probably done for the summer, it's got a rod knocking.

I know of a guy that I can get a 406 small block from for $1000, so I might jump on it.

Whew! haven't updated for a few months...

We're still driving it with the knock...it comes and goes.

I did decide that a 5.3/4L60E swap will be coming up... :D

Re: '71 K/20 Build Thread

Nope :( Haven't really done much to the truck as I've been helping my dad with his '67 Chevelle SS396.

Well that's a good enough reason! Those are nice cars.

Re: '71 K/20 Build Thread

Yup...with the 396 it's got Vette 427 heads...should end up around 475 hp. :D

I’ve done a lot to the truck since then, I’ve neglected posting updates right now the engine is out and I’m converting it to a roller cam, should be pretty healthy when it’s done.
