On a different note I have the doors primed and lined up and shutting correctly.

Final post for the night is the updated exhaust. I used the stock cats but I had to modify the position. I also had the exhaust shop throw on some 40 series Flowmasters. They are temporarily turned down just before the rear axle until I get the bed on and figure out where I want the exhaust to exit.

Dang! There you go passing me up again. Doors are next on my list and you've already done yours. Fuel cell looks good in there, as well as the exhaust.

Thanks. Im getting my fuel line worked out today and then hopefully try and crank this thing on Monday. Hoping to make some serious progress in the next moth.

Thanks. It is slowly coming along. I started my side marker fuel filler door. here is where it is so far...still tweaking a few things but I like where I am heading. I do not have my up to date pictures with the side marker installed, but I should get those soon (I forgot to take them!!!:waah:) Anyway I am not a metal fab guy I'm just a redneck who has seen it done...dangerous I know!

I also got my fuel line made and installed. I used the OEM connectors with a rubber fuel line. turned out well and was fairly inexpensive (compared to AN fittings).

In an attempt to keep the engine bay clutter free, I am going to attempt to mount my PC and my fuse relay in the cab under the dash. I am mocking up some cardboard templates to try to make this work. Since I am using an aftermarket digital gauge cluster, I will have a bit more room behind the gauge cluster VS stock because it is MUCH thinner. I am banking on this room so that I can still run my A/C line to the driver's vent. If I end up not having enough room I will have to fabricate a square a/c box VS the round A/C hose...this is going to be interesting. I also want the PC and fuse relays in the cab so I do not have to worry about them getting wet. I know it is going to be a pain changing a fuse or relay, but I think I am willing to deal with that. Worse case scenario, I have to pull the gauge cluster for direct access. Hopefully once I get all the bugs worked out, I wont be touching these fuses anyway. I will utilize the oem fuse panel to run the lights, radio, ect. Wish me luck, cause I am going to need it!

While working on the truck, I realized the cross brace that covers the fuel cell is not going to clear the fuel pump...out came the cut off wheel for a quick surgery. Slapped on a little paint and problem solved.

Excellent work on the fuel filler and fuel system! It should be a lot easier for you to get fuel to your tank on the step side bed as opposed to the fleetside. There just isn't much room unless you cut into the inside of the bed. Nice work!
I like the idea of putting all the components you can inside the cab too. I know it will be a little more difficult to troubleshoot problems but it sure makes the engine bay clean.

Thanks. You fuel filler looks much cleaner, which is my end goal. Did you have any issues getting the side marker light to sit flush on the recessed mounting place? Or any issues with the fuel door mounting bolts getting in the way?

This has been a learning process for sure. I hope to be able to work the bugs out fairly quickly so that I do not have to mess with the fuse/relay block much if at all. I will have a long road ahead of me cleaning up the engine bay. I will eventually re-route my harness so that it less visible and move the coil packs off of the valve covers, but before we get too fancy I want to get this thing running. I figure all of that can come later on, but I need to mount the relays/pc in the cab now because if I don't, I never will.

Subscribed. Excited to see how the truck turns out. I like you're creativity when trying to save a few dollars here and there!

I did have to make clearance for the heads of the bolts. If you look at the pictures close you can see how I did that HERE. I cut two slots in my lens mounting plate that I welded to the hinge. The lens does stick out a little more than the stock lens but only about a 1/16". Not really even noticeable, in my opinion. It sticks out a little more in the front than in the rear. Again it's really not noticeable. You wouldn't know it's there just looking at the side of the bed.

You are doing a good job and kudos for just jumping into that mod. It was a pain for sure. I spent a ton of time on mine. I've since forgot how many hours....but the next one I do I'll have a pattern to look at. :)

Was the high hump a necessity?

Yes it was. Unless you modify your low hump you will need a high hump. It would takes more modification than I could justify and since there are so many high humps sitting around and they are so easy (compared to modifying the floor pan) to install it was the call for me.

High humps aren't as easy to come by in the 64-66's it seems :/

I'm doing this exact swap right now.

haha well I am learning as I go. Every time I build a truck I learn more. This is by far my most aggressive build.

Thanks. This is the only way I can sorta afford this build! It really hasn't been terrible ($) so far. I will try to put a list together of what I spent when I am done. I am trying to keep track of everything I use and spend!

hmmm I wonder how hard it would be to use/modify a 67-72 high hump for your truck...or maybe a 73-87 floor pan could come in handy? I have no time working on your era of trucks. I am sure that someone on this forum knows exactly what to use though.

It is 1970 504/506 factory colors. Both of these colors have flake in them and look amazing in the sun. I'll try to get some good pictures soon, these pictures were taken early in the morning in the shade and don't do the paint job justice. My paint guy made enough paint so we can shoot it in stages and not have any issues.

Thanks I was a little nervous but when I saw it laid out I really like it.
