Well Friday went well and we finished the rear frame turn downs. Today however did not go as well. First the air compressor blew a head gasket then my mig welder screwed up. The wire keeps getting jammed inside the nozzle. We did manage to tack the reenforcing plates over the joints

Nice! I had a rough shop day Saturday with the air compressor going down and the heat went out too.

So you too know what it's like to head to the shop with a plan and end up spending the day fixing broken crap.

maybe we should buy another easy button so we both have one :D

We got the compressor rebuilt but the mig welder is still down. So today we decided to flip the frame over to weld the bottom. Used the engine hoist to remove the front and rear suspension. Then picked the frame up and flipped it over

Hey Pimpston. I have so many projects I want to build that I don't have time to work for money. The diamond shaped reenforcing plates are from Welder Series, the same company that sells the frame curves I used.

We spent all day welding so I have no new pictures :(

Well since the frame is nearly finished and the temperature finally managed to break into the 20's we decided to bring the truck into the shop and let the snow and ice melt

The passenger side is fairly strait The drivers side has a dent in the door and one in the rear quarter. The rear doors have some dents in the lower gate

Rust in the quarters. Rust in the kick panels. Rust in the vent housings. Rust in the rockers and floor. The door bottoms aren't so bad

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister

the bonus is that the rear floor isn't rusty-since its wood!
your rust repair looks about as bad as mine was on my 64 sub...( some shots of it here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=448681&page=3 )

are you going to just get some repro rockers and fab up a new floor?

I like the color on the Burb. Rust repair will keep you busy a day or two.

Took a couple better pictures of the rusty rockers and floor. We got the truck stripped and a bunch of parts piled up.

Even the wood might be rusty on this one. :haha: I like how you repaired your rusty suburban but mine is going a different route. If you noticed the frame we built is very wide. The frame rails will be inside the rocker panels and the panels and the floor will be fabricated around them.

I like the faded green too.

We started to weld in some bracing. We used 2" because it was laying around Tomorrow we will put in some X braces

We marked out two cut lines to move the door frame back 16"

Subscribed. Trying to visualized what you are doing with the frame. In some photos, it looks like the skeleton of a dinosaur, in others I envision what it must have been like working with John DeLorean in a garage!

Suspense is killing me!

Love this build.

That pic of the snow and ice when you pulled it into the shop, should be captioned "Who needs to wait for summer?"

95.6 I think but with room for suburban, me and the V12 the wheelbase will be close to the stock burb.

The frame rails are part of the rocker and the floor attaches to the bottom of the frame just like a corvette

Winter does give me lots of time to work in the shop. It's too cold to do anything else.

Welded the X braces in front and back. Then we made a pointer to find the axle center line. We spent a lot of time laying out cut lines. They are a little hard to see in the photos

One more picture of the cut lines. Then we used tape to show where the cuts will be made. Rear door frame moves back 16" wheel well moves forward 9 3/4" the back of the truck moves forward 19". We finished the day drilling spot welds so we can remove the roof.
