no the whole cab wasn't repaired. just rust spots. and the guy did a decent job. the paint looks good. but when you look really close, especially by the tailgate and bed sides you can tell the difference with the blue (very minor) and the silver is less "coarse" for the flakes. The guy didnt adjust the bumper when he put the bumper on, so the under side is chipped. there is a hear cleared over on the tailgate. a little overspray cleared over on edge of cab by the door seam. some overspray on the trim. a scratch and fingerprint in new paint by bottom corner of windsheild. and the seat belts dont work properly now. ones for sure broken. should have taken a much more in depth look before paying him. but they are very hidden and hard to find unless you start working on it. thats when i noticed. Any suggestions? I talked to him about the tailgates chipped paint, he said that he would fix it. what about the rest?

lesson learned. don't go to a cheaper body shop. I'm surprised it came out like this after a very good restoration shop recommended me to him.

Its been a while, i have done some smaller things lately. I recently started changing all the window gaskets, which will probably lead to me replacing my one door due to a big crease running down it. i have also bought a running 454 for $300 and 1 ton axles. This project is starting to become a bit more expensive that id like, but its all worth it.

Ill have to admit that i didnt install the vent window gasket. I handed it off due to the amound of times i scratched the paint while putting it in. Being that its winter, i dont have a proper space to paint. While trying to put in the gasket I became a tad impacient and cut the gasket about a quarter inch too short. Found out that it was short after i got it back from the shop. So theres another thing i need to redo.

On to the big block. Its a 289 4bolt out of a 90s chevy. Since buying it, I stripped it and sent it to the machine shop. It was cleaned and magged. Im still deciding on a build for it. need to be bored over and im planning on a 468 or 496. Either way im gonna be going with a hydrolic roller setup with carb off pump gas.

had the crank cleaned and inspected. It needs a grind, so i have to decide should i waste my time and money on a cast crank. So i have to decide if i should just get a stroker kit. Also the machine shop keeps pushing al heads, not sure if its worth it. Opinions on what heads and what to do with crank?

looking good.
what shifter ya gonna run with the manual valvebody t400? i'll be running this on my manual 4L80(E):
http://www.tciauto.com/tc/fast-gatetm-shifterhtml
it's for a 3 or 4 speed. i'll build a platform for it to sit on and later a console.

before pics on welding in the ord steering box brace. also using there engine mounts and engine crossmemeber. Offroad design has been pretty good for most thing, kinda pricey on certain items. Make sure to check pricing. Attachment 1606469

I am liking the dyno numbers. Maybe some day I can follow your recipe for my big block.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

gonna need accessories and bracket for sure on this big block swap. Anyone know what i need or recommend something they have used. not gonna run ac on the setup. Too my knowledge all i can use off my old sbc is the alternator, dont think the powersteering pump works. Any info helps

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

if you're running the hydroboost, PS pump is part of the system.

Very nice looking truck. You've done well cleaning in protecting / preserving the frame, bumpers, etcetera. And now with those axles and turbo 400, this thing is going to be stout! Those are some great dyno numbers. I have a 454 that was swapped in place of a 6.2 liter diesel by the previous owner. Let me know any brackets that you want me to take pictures of. It's hydroboost though, and non AC.

JacobSchni 01-05-2017 11:12 PM

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

i dont have any hydroboost setup, and im taking out the ac. Going to only keep my heat. If you have pictures of alternator thatd be awsome.
