Got my freshly rebuilt rear end bolted into the newly installed porterbuilt stage 2 deluxe kit. The rear consists of an Eaton posi, 3.42 gears, 1350 yoke, Yukon 5x5 30 spine axles, all new bearings and some 12" Baer disk brakes made for 12 bolt C-clip axle rears (Thanks to Travis at Pro Performance for the brakes).

With the rotors and calipers on.
http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3268.jpg

http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3269.jpg
And back down on the tires for the first time in a couple months. I'm waiting on the heim joints for the panhard bar and just need to do the brake hard lines. The PB system is great and the air bags work awesome, can't wait to get the bed on.
http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3276.jpg
Since I'm doing everything pretty much by myself, I'm going to make a structure to lift the bed on and off with a cherry picker. Going to put back one and get some measurements for new wheels, then pull it off and install the accuair sensors, tanks, etc. as well as the fuel tank.
http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3280.jpg

Now to move to the front soon for the PB mild drop setup.

DLW, that thing looks amazing. PB stuff sure is nice. Are you making your own panhard bar? I did that, and one thing I did that I thought was pretty neat (if I do say so myself) was get a hex nut that fit the bar and welded it in the middle of the bar to help make any adjustments easier. Turns out it spun like butter with the new joints, but it still looks kinda cool, haha.

Thanks guys.

For the panhard bar, I'm using the PorterBuilt bar, it just came minus some heim joints, misalignment spacers and hardware :). That's a good idea on the hex nut in the middle though, I usually use the hex head tube adapters then I have one on each side.

Not quite a truck build update.......

Had to come home early today from London to edit my 2015 business plan which I am presenting on Thursday....... deep joy.

Found myself the recipient of a parcel from Searcy, Arkansas, from Ta2Don. Postage alone $26.00 ..... eeeek !!!

Anyway, contents included a couple of Don's shop T-shirts for mate Martin and Amanda and another one for Ian who is living with us.

THEN...... Thanks to Don and Clemdaddy from Fayetteville, Arkansas a T-Shirt that blew my mind the first time I saw it as it had a C10 on it, as well as the Sinclair Oil Corporation, and a custom made number plate for car shows that Don had designed and got airbrushed for me.

So we loaded the compressor and a crate tonight.......

I never noticed all of the snap fasteners on your bed before, mine has the same, when I bought it there was a white tonneau cover on it. Do you have a tonneau cover for yours?

Hi Craig, check out page one or two of my truck thread, it mostly wears the cover.

However, I am looking for a way to remove the fasteners but keep a cover.

Got a hydroboost from an '04 Silverado 2500 installed today, along with shortening the brake pushrod. Used Captainfab's hydroboost mounting plate and booster adapter bracket. I cannot give a strong enough recommendation for all his stuff. I have used the power steering gearbox adapter, the 14 bolt axle saddles, and now these two items. Top notch stuff and delivered incredibly fast, and his input on these forums is priceless.
Hooked up the brake lines, but gave in to the cold, it's only 36 degrees and windy here in the Dallas area. I'll have to hook up the pressure and return lines to the power steering pump another day.

Chop, cut, rebuild. Isn't that a show? Cut bumper brackets, weld, cut, weld, fit. Two down two to go. Putting a 67-72 rear bumper is more pain for the gain. Got temp tires for front 225/70/15 to replace the 13+ year old 235/60/15. Now at 27.4 tall it filled the fender and closer to the 245/45/18 waiting for crossmember install. Picked up Flaming River manual 15:1 rack.

went up to my cabin property and stripped my 66 Chevy car. Going to probably haul it down the phoenix next spring and sell it. Got lots of great parts off it but have decided the 63 GMC is the one for me to build. Gonna pull the trailing arms off the bent frame later and put them in so I can eventually put some bigger tires in.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

RADICAL TRANSFORMATION !!

That is the only way I can describe how the new lowered shocks and springs on the trucks suspension performs compared to the waddling duck it had been before.

After fitting everything new, including the brake hoses, I never got a chance to go test drive the truck, but of course the compressor had to be taken over to Martin's place 15 miles away today, after which I came home and then Nicola and I took a very large wooden chest down to her work and drove around some more before coming home, so I did around 50 plus miles today.

After dropping the compressor off, I came back home driving rather briskly...... through every roundabout and other bendy bits, the truck felt a whole lot like a modern car, sure footed and going where I pointed it.

I am amazed at the transformation.

This is a modification I would highly recommend to anyone with one of these trucks. Of course there is a lot more radical stuff you can do to the truck including C-Notching, airbags, dropped spindles etc. The sky is the limit, or the size of your bank balance.

I think that with imported parts, it came to about £100.00 or $160.00 per corner to fit these Brothers Trucks parts.

After all the driving and hooning, the suspension must have settled for now, so here are a pair of pics, unfortunately, I had not straightened the steering wheel up front for the photos.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps80c90085.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps735bb261.jpg

After we came back from the shops, Martin came over and we went to go look at a 1990 Chevy Dayvan.

I was interested in the steering column, as I want a replacement column shift steering for my truck, and Martin is looking for a decent 350/350 or 700R4 combo for his truck. He will be selling the 307 and gearbox he bought running out of a truck earlier this year. The rest of the Dayvan would be sold off as spares if we bought it for the asking price of £800.00

When we got there and looked it all over, the steering was locked and the ignition mullered, Martin also decided for once to be sensible and walk away as the peripheral costs of making this engine run, could end up being more than than he wanted to spend.

HOWEVER, we ended up spending a great afternoon with Wayne the seller and some of his mates at his industrial unit.

I did have to use the bathroom, and the whole bathroom was done just perfectly, and I could not resist taking this pic of the toilet seat cover....... Just perfect for an Avatar.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd154b70d.jpg

We eventually left there and came home via Screwfix.

Got the following text an hour ago......

Hi Rian, I'm leaving my current job in three weeks, do you want me to pop round one evening to pull the dents out on your truck door with the pin puller ??

Message from a really nice guy I met months ago when he bought something for his son off Ebay from me.

So I guess the bodywork is about to start on the truck.

The world and life sure is filled with good stuff.

  1. Drove out and picked up a set of fan shroud side mounts from a member (thanks Danny!)
  2. Installed the alternator using a side mount bracket made by Bill's Hotrod Company.
  3. Ordered a new P/S pump that I'll pick up tomorrow.
  4. Picked up a fan clutch for the large fan I picked up at the last swap meet.
  5. Finished some wiring.
Slowly chipping away at all the little stuff to get back on the road again. Hopefully tomorrow I will get some time to install the relay and wiring for the fuel pump.

Spoke to Bob the dent guy for about 45 minutes this morning, I sense a kindred spirit.

He will be here next week Sunday morning for the door crease and a couple of other small dents that can do with pulling.

I took a couple of fresh photos today while doing some other bits down at the garage, preparing it for when I start the bodywork.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf3e84c97.jpg

Does not look bad, but still worth pulling, rather than just filling or bashing from behind.

New chrome rectangular mirrors are waiting, I will clean and repaint the stalks, either black or probably gunmetal/silver.

After seeing Markeb01's garage again this morning, I was shamed into pulling finger and starting the clear up and tidy up of my own space, before I start the actual tear down of my truck over Christmas.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/538/nSjFmM.jpg

I started with the outside, pulling weeds, clearing "stuff" away, followed by a few hours on the pressure cleaner, inside and outside that garage as well as both sides of the door.

The other day I realised when I posted this pic, the inside and outside needed some serious tidying.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps42a75d3e.jpg

At some point it looked like this.....

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...x/P1020401.jpg

Current view, the ply sheets will form walls for a "spray/bodywork booth"

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbd2d3923.jpg

So I cleaned up the interior and drive......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3b4a57f2.jpg

Done.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps5a3fcad0.jpg

Next job will be to clear out and sort out the interior.

Then figure out the new walls.

Nice to see things moving forward. Just a thought before you construct a plywood booth inside your garage - the last time I painted my truck I lined the garage with cheap disposable plastic drop cloths. I did one set for the body work, and replaced them again before painting:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/674/iwkn7R.jpg

These allow maximum use of space, keep dust and overspray off your stuff, and take about 5 minutes to pull and toss in the garbage can when you're finished.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

(Cross-posted from my build thread since more people here who might benefit from the information will read this thread.)

I found a local guy here in Phoenix, AZ who does some good hammer and dolly work for cheap money. My truck had some major dents and creases in both doors. I don't intend to paint it or do any body work as I love the original look but I felt that the truck could still look a little better. I knew it wouldn't come out perfect but I am very satisfied with the results and the job cost was extremely low. PM me if you are in Phoenix area and want a referral for inexpensive metal work. Here is a before and after pic. I will tell you that the "before" pic does not really do justice to how deep the dent was or how heavily it was creased. The two vertical creases below the mirror are completely gone even though the marks left are still there. This was all done while the doors remained on the truck.

To each their own, LVPhotos. I've lived in a lot of places, deep south, Mojave Desert, NW, NE, Midwest, mountains. I prefer 4 seasons, green vegetation, and like winter better than 100+ degrees and 90 percent humidity. There is good and bad everywhere you go.
