Making steady progress, all of the fenders are almost ready for epoxy and 2K, bedsides are sandblasted, metal worked and the passenger side is skim coated. I'll be out there making more dust tomorrow...

I took a break from sanding and got some more done on the interior. Before reinstalling the newly modified brake pedal I finished installing the sound deadening on the cab floor and pieced together some 40oz jute carpet padding for the cab floor and toe board.

Waiting for paint to dry, I whipped up an aluminum mounting bracket for the tach. I think it looks much better than the stamped tin bracket that came with the gauge cup...

The custom tach I ordered from Speedhut showed up while we were on vacation so I got it wired up and installed. I need to find some small diameter loom before I can connect the wires.
Just before leaving I mocked up the stereo system and installed the antenna behind the seat. Reception is very good and the sound quality is better than expected. |

I love those green line gauges!! I used to have them in my '55 Belair!

Re: Brother's keeper - '58 Stepside build
Looks really nice Mark, that two-tone dash came out just perfect and the gauges are totally fitting to it all.

Doing the carpet now so I can have binding sewn on the edges. I was going to try to do it in one piece but now I'm leaning towards cutting a U shaped relief for the hump and make a second piece to cover the hump, slightly overlapping along the edge. There should be enough carpet left over to make some floor mats too.

Fed Ex called to set up a delivery for the bed sides I ordered from Mar-K. Since the terminal is only 15 minutes away, I picked them up this morning. Nice quality and very well packaged for shipping.
Anyway, my youngest was home so she helped me get the sides in place and held them until I could get a few bolts in. I installed the tail gate and got everything squared up, it went pretty easy. The rear sill didn't have holes for the license plat bracket so I got that done, the tail lights were installed to make sure all of the holes line up. |

The last big hurdle is the doors. They are in great shape and won’t need much bodywork. I spent the evening removing an excessive amount of 3M yellow weatherstrip adhesive, finding and opening up drain holes and cleaning out a ridiculous amount of nuts, bolts, washers and general debris that was inside the doors...

Great progress, strong work.
Has anyone ever done door glass without the metal channel attached to the glass? And found a way to put some sort of insert in the door to accommodate door glass with out the metal channel? Don't want to hi-jack the thread, just an unfiltered thought. NC |
