If you don't mind me asking, what are you estimating for the rear end rebuild? Posi, 5 lug, disc brakes - all sounds like what I'd like to do.

i was thinking about $800 for posi, rotors, calipers, hoses, axles and gears.

Re: my 68 shortbed build

$800 is dirt cheap for a new posi unit and gears, nevermind axles and bearings, and all your brake parts, ect.

just an eaton posi carrier goes for about $400- 500 bucks, the another $250 for gears...

thats a great deal if you can do it all for that price!

so i took the truck out for its first drive with the new tranny.

the tranny shifts great but just needs a few shifter linkage adjustments.

Re: my 68 shortbed build

i have also decided to keep the truck 6 lug and go with some 20'' weels instead of 18s, but i will still be converting to 4 way power disk brakes

cstm68 02-28-2008 10:43 AM

Re: my 68 shortbed build

Man, that looks great!!! I bought the original color to paint my truck because the interior was in good shape and I wasn't going to take it down very far, but at the point I'm at right now I could have changed the color. Something like this is what I would have gone with!

Re: my 68 shortbed build

I had the same trouble with pics. If you have HP image zone or some like that change the image size to make it smaller and that will make the file size smaller also. I had to many pixels so that made the file size to big to download.

Nice truck!

Re: my 68 shortbed build

Hows about installing that latch for your tailgate behind the bedpost(right where you installed it the first time but inside it) then cut a square out in that post so you can push the button, but you wont be able to see the hardware at all.
