Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Must say I have always given kudos to my wife for talking me into keeping the '57 thru the years. When I was working so much overtime thru the years just the thought of finding the time to work on the '57 was totally a foreign concept at the time. Got the big time itch to really dig in and get a restore going after I retired. Not getting any younger and wanted to enjoy my first ''big boys toy'' again. I had a loose moment years ago and sold my '65 Impala SS with a 300hp/327, 4 speed, buckets and console with factory tach which I regret to this day. Can't even imagine how I would feel today having sold that '57 years back. I bought it for $500 and drove it 35 miles home. Can't buy a decent front clip for $500 in today's tri-five world. She's a good gal who loves old time rock and roll, car shows and after 50 years together she's a keeper. :chevy:

Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Yeah, I'm sure the regret would be pretty bad if you would have sold it. Your night sounded like it was pretty relaxing. We're supposed to get more snow this afternoon/night. I'm ready for spring too. My 71 Camaro was forced out of it's storage after the roof collapsed on it's temporary home in January. Since the snow melted and I had to move it, I've actually been able to drive it a few times. I'm so glad I put a vintage air in it so it has heat and ac. Now to figure out why I didn't close off the original cowl vents. That gets cold driving when it's 2* out.

Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Haven't posted here for awhile but looks as if Spring has finally sprung. Spring this year has been really strange. Warm and sunny a day or two, then, cloudy, windy with cooling back down, just got done with an almost week long rainy spell. Dry and sunny today, the grandson is graduating today and then a reception after. With Mother's Day tomorrow may fire up the '57 or the Chevelle after the long winter's nap and take the Mrs. for a ride and out to dinner, maybe even an ice cream later. Let her choose which ride she wants to take for the first run of the year.

Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
hope all those tornadoes missed yall...saw some wild videos of them
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
No tornadoes here, had some heavy rain and pea sized hail. All the toys were safely tucked away in the shop. Some areas not so lucky.

Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Haven't posted to this for awhile. WOW! Working toward closing in on 18,000 views!! Thanks to all who have taken the time to look in. Great times when I can get the '57 out, feel 19 again, LOL. That was a LONG time ago!
Have taken the 57 out a few times but with no A/C and the triple digit temps we have had this summer it hasn't been nearly as often as I would like. Temps have cooled somewhat but have been REALLY dry. Car show coming up this weekend, maybe low 90s, possible RAIN we really need badly Saturday into Sunday. '57 will be safely tucked away by then. |

Took '57 out for a trip after airing the tires and checking all the fluid levels. Tires down a few pounds, not bad tho. Fluids are all good and off we go to put some fuel in. Those dual fours do get thirsty, LOL.
Motored around town a bit with the Mrs. and then decided to stop at local Braum's Ice Cream store. Two scoops, one of Peanut Butter Cup and one scoop of Cappuccino Chunky Chocolate. Made a good lunch, LOL. |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Always enjoy Braum's when we are in the Wichita. Hopefully we'll get to meet up again at a car event when me and the boss get up there again.
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Will be looking forward to meeting again. Spent a fair bit of time many years ago not far from Gulfport. Keesler AFB in Biloxi while I was in the service. US Army and I was stationed at a Air Force Base for some advanced training in radar systems. Even made it to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras, this was in Feb. 1968. Party Hearty for sure in that town.
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
I worked at Keesler for 30 some years.
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
I spent 1960 at Keesler going through electronics training, learning instrument landing systems and homing beacons.

Thanks Dale, gotta' admit I feel like I'm 19 again when I'm behind the wheel and that 4 speed stick is in my hand, LOL. Listening to the exhaust shifting from 2nd to 3rd then hitting 4th is like music to my ears.

Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
The Mrs. and I kept our two grand daughters overnight this past Thursday and all day Friday for my son and daughter-in-law. They are 6 and 9, both great kids and usually no problems other than they are siblings, LOL. Took them out for lunch at McDonald's, their choice, not G'ma and G'pa's, again LOL. Then afterwards ice cream at our local Braum's. Then....took them for a ride in
'' G'pa's race car " ! Should have heard the squeals and the giggles from both of them ! Windows were down and the pipes were talking a bit. Think they enjoyed it almost as much as G'pa did. Out south of town for a few miles, hit 2nd, 3rd and then 4th just a tad bit. Think they will remember this ride as much as I will ! |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Making memories....cant beat that..!!!!!!
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Getting them started out right. You might have started them out on a life time of hot rodding.

Wife and I went to an auction awhile back, car guy I have known for some time had passed and his wife was moving closer to the kids. Selling some things that he had acquired thru the years that she did not want to keep. This sign was one of them, he had a 58 'Vette that his son was keeping. Was having it shipped out of state to his home. Don't blame him there, it is beautiful! Wish I had gotten a pic of it. I did acquire this pic, couldn't pass it up knowing a '57 is sitting in my shop, LOL. Guess was not a lot of interest by many at the auction since I bought it for a whopping $4.00 ! I was prepared to go a LOT higher than that for sure.
Also picked up the really NICE 1957 Kansas license plate for a $5.00 bill. Don't have a BBC 427 in the '57 but seriously thinking about having the plate registered to the car, LOL. But then it might be a let down to see when I raise the hood instead of a BB in the engine bay there is a little SBC with the 2x4s, LOL. |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
I like the sign!
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Thanks Dale, have to admit I think it does look pretty cool hanging in the shop behind the '57.
Have been giving some serious thought to it and finally decided. The '57 is going under the knife again for another mod this spring. Will be adding power steering to the ol' Gal. It's the only one of my herd of 5 vehicles that does not have P/S and it's feeling left out, LOL. Gotta' leave the old school four speed for sure but like the idea of the P/S. On the highway cruising it steers well but slow turns at low speed in town does require a bit of effort. Looking at the CPP P/S conversion and will be also adding a front sway bar at the same time. Guess it's true what one hears, "they're really never done", |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Power steering will be nice addition.
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Finally got the kitchen/dining room remodel finished. That was rather PRICEY! Custom oak cabinets, quartz counter tops, laminate flooring, the whole works. But.......the little woman is HAPPY, Happy wife, Happy life or so I've heard it said. Hired a local construction company for the remodel and will say they did a great job, very pleased. Just somewhat poorer than I used to be tho! Now I can go back on the '57. Goes under the knife starting Monday for the power steering mod and front sway bar. A good mechanic friend of mine is assisting this old man, seems I'm not as limber as I used to be, LOL. Maybe that's because I was 8 years old when my '57 was on the show room floor.....
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Nice! I'm glad she's happy. My ex was never happy, my girlfriend of 12 years appreciates my hobbies a lot more....gotta love her. I dated her in high school but we drifted away from each other for a long time.
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
That sign is cool..!!!!
Power steering will be a nice addition.. |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
THE '57 HAS POWER STEERING AT LAST!
Picked it up from my mechanic friend yesterday and drove it home the 45 miles. What a difference from the manual steering previously. Ran it about 55-60 mph and it tracked straight, true, no wandering at all. Also had a front sway bar added with the P/S addition. Will put a few miles on it and drive it awhile in town locally and then take it in for an alignment. Was not a low cost mod by no way but VERY happy to have the P/S at last! Thanks for the 25,000 plus views and comments from all who looked in on the thread. :chevy: |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
That's great...!!!
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Nice addition.:metal:
You will enjoy that in the parking lots for sure.;) |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Very nice! Nice additions/upgrades!
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Wow, 29,000 plus views! Appreciate all who took time to look in and leave a comment or two. Shortly after I got the P/S addition on the '57 I had surgery on my left foot. Three weeks of a funky "boot" and crutches, switched to a cane for a month or so. No way of doing any three pedal driving, LOL. Now here we are in the midst of winter with snow, cold, salt brine on the roads and the '57 slumbers until Spring thaw. Spring thaw can't come soon enough for me. Ready to put some miles on the '57 and enjoy that P/S!
Thanks again for all the views and comments. :chevy: |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Wow, 33,000 plus views! I am both amazed and appreciative to the number of people who looked in on this post! Must say the P/S is a REALLY nice addition, the steering seems firm and tight, no wandering or slop. My mechanic friend who did the install for me did a great job. Still have not taken it in for alignment check, need to get that done but not a pressing need. Definitely NOT a daily driver,
Again, a big thanks to all who have looked in and for the comments. :chevy: |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Read through this entire thread again. Such a great story and equally great car.
|
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Thanks for the kind remarks, CG. Must admit I feel like a 19 old kid again when behind the wheel and that four speed stick is in my hand, LOL. And that my friend was a LONG TIME AGO! :chevy:
And 34,000 PLUS views. Again, quite appreciative and again amazed so many views from so many members. Makes all the time, money, beer and skinned knuckles thru the years worth the trip. Thanks again to all. |
Re: '57 2Dr Sedan
Wow again...... closing in on 40,000 views ! Again, so appreciative and amazed. And also again, another mod is coming into my mind. AIR CONDITIONING ! This summer has been just way too much upper 90s and the dreaded triple digits with added humidity for cruising fun. Guess I'm living up to the phrase....."they're never really done" Looking at both Vintage Air and Old Air companies. Decisions, decisions. Again, neither one is cheap but then....Cheap isn't good and Good isn't cheap still comes into play.
