Man those retro pics are taking me back...Even back then, I preferred simple solid paint schemes, so the crazy paint jobs never really appealed to me, but the WHEELS...Center Line, Budnik, Colorado Customs, Boyds, Welds, etc...I loved 'em all. 1bad, you were talking about seeing your first set of 20s; I remember the first set of 17s I saw on one of these trucks - Colorado Customs, on a dark blue 92 GMC shortwide lowered 4/6 - and it knocked my socks off. That sure seems like a long time ago now!

I remember a dude in my hometown having a 89 full size dropped and on Indy Champ 500 wheels and 50 series tires back in 89. That truck was so badass to 16 year old me, even though it was dropped on heated leafs and cut coils and quite obviously drove like crap.

The pastel colors and/or EKG graphics never really appealed to me. I think almost every non-stock fullsize GM truck and "cal-look" air cooled VW was rocking that look in the late 80s-early 90s.

I'd say that fits the bill for sure. Looks like somebody spent quite a few dollars on it at some point.

I never liked those wheels, but a sweet truck overall.

I believe that truck was built by Chris Jackson, out of Indianapolis, in the late 90's. Last time I seen it was probably 98 or 99 at the Sport Truck Nationals in Owensboro KY. It had 19's on it then.

Man, that brings back some memories. That's Texas Heatwave (1999 maybe?). This weekend (yesterday and today) is Texas Heatwave. I drove through Austin today on my way back home from a family trip to San Antonio. I was going to stop in at Heatwave and shoot some pics of the show, but when I saw the $33 admission price just to spectate, I said "F that!" It would cost me $66 to get myself and my wife in. As awesome of a show it is and as much as I wanted to be there, it ain't worth the price of admission to me.

Yep, it was Heatwave '99. :)

On Facebook I follow the guy that puts on Scrapin' the Coast in MS. I noticed him mention to someone that the spectator fee for that show was $15/day, & I thought that was crazy. Like you, there's no way in he*l I'd pay $33 just to look around. That's insane!

I could do $15 for a show of that caliber. I've paid more than that to get into a Goodguys show. I might do $20, but anything more than that is just f'ing insane. The last time I went to Heatwave was about a decade ago as a spectator and it was free then.

I love that Suburban and dually, although I've never been a fan of the way the bowtie looks on that Mexican grille.

Actually it was built by John Thompson in Houston, Texas. Chris may have been the second owner.

That's a great looking truck! I remember seeing one for the first time when I was 8 or 9 (about 1991). I wanted one then and I still do. Yours isn't helping, haha.

BTW, I really dig those wheels! What are they?

Here's my 1994 K1500 Silverado Z71. This is the second one I've owned. Sold my first one and regretted it. Tracked one down that was identical in options/color. It's not as nice as my first was, but it'll do.

I went to look at a '77 short box 4x4 a few weeks back to trade this, but backed out after inspecting the '77. Guy was a bit upset and started telling me my truck was "too clean, like I'm trying to hide something." I'll take that insult any day.
