Yay page 5!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris I agree I need some pics, working from a pc that isnt mine and my cell phone well lack of a cell phone right now, lol got a loner phone till the 18th, should have pics of the radiator intake and wiring harness up soon, radiator and wiring harness sooner than the intake and even pics of a carb.......and along with all of these promised pics ill throw in some of the monster radiator and some of the truck before and after a good cleaning, remember radiator carb and wiring harness are dreams as of now but well thought out plans too lol, now comes a question Chris, I have 6X heads, found the boss on both heads where 4 is supposed to be, can see or feel a 4 on either head, looks and feels smooth, does that mean i have something different than "6X-4" heads???

There are 2 lifter covers that work with that intake, the early 66 and older and the 67 and later. The early cover has the PCV in the rear and I like this because it is a cleaner look.;)
No need to butcher the manifold like that. That manifold pic is evidence that the owner/butcher doesn't know what he is doing. :)
The 4 will be stamped, not cast into that boss. Note yellow areas.
If there is no stamp, you may just need to have them cc'd to know for sure or i can post photos of all 3 6X cumbustion chambers and you can identify them that way.
If you need any other help just let me know.:metal:

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Tank is still in, got the seat out and put away, moving a bench alone is a pain lol

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

well 5 bolts away from having the tank out, 6 days away from valentines day, still building a wish list and hoping i remember to bring home enough tools from work tomorrow to pull the tank and put it back in, any advice for cleaning it? I plan to take it out, dump it, put about a gallon of gas in it, slosh it around, dump it again then put it back in.......anything else I should do with it?

69C-owner 02-15-2012 06:43 PM

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

today brought good and bad news, cleaned the tank and put it back in, put in about a gallon and a half of gas, found at least one fuel leak, reverse is gone and no sign of brakes but it moved lol......guess shes gonna sit a bit longer, hoping to make a big parts trip soon, maybe I'll find a better truck and my project will become parts

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

That motor is bolted in just like mine.
The diesel Olds motor plates with Poncho motor mounts.
My frame brakets/plates are from a 79 but I don't know what other years they used the olds motors in.
I know a guy with a Buick bolted just the same way.

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Well thats cool new info to have, the trans has no reverse, cheapest I have found so far is a 350 for $350, I dont want to sink any real big money into an automatic when I want to put a 6 speed manual in it eventually but reverse would be nice, found a guy close that has a 74 Ventura Custom, what are the odds that has a Pontiac drivetrain? I know I can buy an adapter plate for roughly $50 and run a chevy trans but then i have to worry about driveshaft length

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Do a BOP TH400, they came in the 70's GMC's with an Olds diesel engine and most wrecking yards have them. They have a yoke bolted to the tail shaft an extra deep pan and a very heavy duty case. Wrecking yards in my area sell them for $200-$350 and give you a 90 day warranty.
$350 for a TH350 is a stupid price when you can get a 2004R 4spd OD for around that same price used and have OD as a bonus. I sell rebuilt BOP TH350's for $275 but I am too far from you. Check the wrecking yards and craigs list. A 6 speed is going to knock $3500 right out of your pocket and not be worth the trouble in a truck. Just advice from a half century + old man who has building Pontiacs since the mid 70's.

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Well as of today I'm no longer unemployed boys so now I can actually start tackling some small projects here and there that cost more than free like plumbing the fuel system, installing a new radiator, fixing the holes in my offenhauser intake with helicoils and finding a carb, getting a new sending unit for the tank, doing the brakes and finding a trans, yep that sounds like all to make her a driver

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Found a trans, http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/pts/2862252498.html , but if I buy it I need to find a driveshaft, its a 400 and I have a 350 in the truck now, I hear the output shafts are different

Re: 69 LWB Fleet Build thread "The Beast"

Thought hadnt occurred until now but i just might use aome of that exhaust u see laying in the bed on the truck, the old mufflers are crushed and rusted

The length is different too.
You should have a 2 piece drive shaft with the bearing hanging off the support.
Lots of those came with a 400 so the wrecking yards should be littered with them.
I found one for $20. (the front half)(the back half is the same)
