Good to talk to you on the train, and then again at home.

Nice to go out on Searcy High street and see your town on Video chat.

As mentioned, I will try to get you and Mike McMurphy those Ace Cafe stickers as soon as I go by there again.

I will see if they have the inside the window type in stock, as they age much better than external ones.

Nicola is very impressed with your pipe.

Booked for 10.30 this morning. 05.50 here now.
Woke at 05.00 with BBQ mouth, needing a drink so went downstairs to make a mug of tea, then ended up sorting out the MX5's history file and totalled up the spend so far........ OOOOOOPPPS!!!!!
Purchase price £750.00
Further spend £1382.00
(this is pretty much penny spent to date, should it pass MOT today and including road Tax at £255/year)
I have now over spent significantly on this car and will NEVER recover it all, so she better drive the wheels off it and enjoy every moment.

Thanks guys.

My mate Martin and his wife Amanda invited me to this show, which I had planned on inviting them to as well.

This morning at 05.00 Harley came in to wake me, and by 05.30 I was up, out the house by about 06.15 to go run through a boot fair before meeting Martin and Amanda at the Esso Services on the A2 at 08.00 sharp.

Bootfair was great, I popped into McD's for a coffee before hitting the road with the Redneck Express.

Being exhibitors, we got free entry to the show and the Steam Meuseum.

I will try to just post some pics.

Due to the sheer volume of American cars and trucks, I have decided to post up mostly just the trucks.

Hope you like.

At bootfair early morning......

Can you see the rider on this??

Thanks Chad.

Yep, trust me, its as easy as it looks, if I can, anyone can.

I am just soooo sorry I did not copy the template so one could lay it out as a plan for everyone to copy.

After work today I went down to the garage to check something out that has bugged me for a while.

The truck has some white plastic panels along the bottoms of the doors, and when I bought it, my suspicion was that they were covering holes. Presumably speaker holes. But you could not feel it, as the plastic is quite thick.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscf8bc5a0.jpg

Ideally I would be happy with intact all steel door panels, but hey..... if the holes are there..... make lemonade.

Et Voila !!!!

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3cea77c8.jpg

Test fitted the 6 X 9 200 Watt speakers I had hidden for a rainy day and even the mounting holes correspond.

I also have an amp in the garage that I gave to a friend a few years ago, along with a 12 inch Sub, which should drive the pair of 4 ways quite adequately.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps5207f19a.jpg

Of course there are also a pair of speakers mounted in the "B-Pillars" behind my head, but I will be leaving them alone. Along with the 400 Watt speakers in the doors, it will be way more noise than I need.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps293e61c3.jpg

Over the weekend I have a few bits to do, including going to see a guy about airbrush painting a skull.

I may pop over to Martins, as he is in the electronics game and I want to fit a beeper inside the cab to my indicator, so that I can remember to switch them off after I go around a corner.
He also has rubber grommets which he uses in his daily job, or removes from customers cars, so maybe fit some when fitting the speakers in the doors.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB

Rian, before you go all crazy with mounting speakers, you may want to look at investing in some foam backing baffles for them.
The reasons being they will improve sound quality, extend the life of the speakers, and in the case of the door mounted ones, they will protect them from the rain water and dirt that slip in through the window gaps.

They run about $10 USD for a pair, and IMO are by far worth the investment.

Good use for the holes in the doors though !!
Are you going to paint the rusty panel to match your door skins? (as in black?)

Hi Mike

Thanks for the reply and advice.

I agree about protection for sure. It will happen.

I had a Ford mini-truck years ago as a student(Google Ford Cortina/ford P100 pickup or Bakkie for images) and had what looked like half cups in plastic over the door mounted speakers. Nicola's MX5 door speakers were rotten for the same reason, so it will be happening.

Regarding the door panel paint..... They will be cleaned up and painted.

However, I may still panel them like the upper panels in leather/vinyl or satin black.
I plan on repainting the whole dash satin black too, as there is just way too much red in there for me.
It will also include welding up that ugly assed radio mount hole and redoing it neatly, and the auxillary gauge panel next to the main instruments and relocating the auxillaries to a panel below the dash. There is a tear in the metal on the one corner of the glove box that needs repairing too. Weld or braze??

If I can have a decent new carpet made up using the existing one as patern, and for sensible money I may go that route as well.

The truck has to stay a driver and working truck, so I need to put function ahead of form all the way. Things like the quarter vent window rubbers will get replaced as they are rotten but the side trim will only get replaced if I earn a bonus or win a lottery draw.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB

Years ago I gave this amp and sub speaker to my mate Dirk for a little Suzuki van he had, but it got stolen within a week of him purchasing it. So he never got to use them.

When I saw him recently and mentioned that I was going to investigate the doors to see if they had holes and if I could fit the 200watt 6X9 speakers I had in my secret reserve stash, he said he still had the amp and sub, just needed to find them, and I could have them back.
About 25 minutes later and typically the last storage crate he looked in, they came out.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8441bfea.jpg

I cannot remember the power output of the Sub, but had it in a car before and it was more than sufficient.

So now just need to figure out where to mount it in the truck, maybe use an old surround sound box.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse4b7c38a.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psba50d469.jpg

Looking forward to getting all this sorted.

Badge landed safely this week. Thanks to Don and his son who now no longer has a Miata badge on his MX5

Showed it to Nocola and she was VERY pleased. Like me, she likes stuff a bit different, so the US Spec badge will do that too.

Thursday night after work I drove about 50 miles via mate Martin who has two MX5's and a Chevy C10 truck's place, down to Ashford to buy a complete electric window mechanism from a breaker for £40 which including company car fuel at 12p/mile meant it cost me £52.00 to fetch as my mates rates unit at half that price never made it out the starting gates due to ill health.

Friday I worked in Central London so when I got home via train and after filling the company car, I jumped into Merlin and drove the 15 miles to Martins place for him to "help me fit it" (well, he did all the work)

On removing the door panel which I will remake some time, we found a "universal" winder lit bodged in there.

40 minutes later we had a working drivers window and a very happy wife who was watching the progress via Whatsapp updates from home, as she got home at about 5.30

Once done I needed to get home and jumped in, only to be asked by Martin "Why do you sit so close to the wheel?"

Yes, turns out that in the rush to fit the chrome Style bar, I had fitted it back to front........ Two bolts and less than 10 minutes later, I was stretching my legs with the seats back another 50mm which never bothered Miss Daisy as she sits closer to the wheel anyway.

So a big Thank You to Martin for the help to clear the last hurdle in getting Merlin fully useable for Nicola who asked me last night if she could go to work today (Saturday) even though they do not work weekends.

Pics later.
