kindah wonder if you need ported heads on an engine that big , usually they only cause the engine to need more revs and that seems not a good idea in the mud as that stuff flies everywhere while you dig 4 axle deep holes in less than a second
i figure you would need a low reving engine with masses of torq pulling you up a hill while barely more than ticking over

i wouldnt know for sure as we dont have mush mud here usually its clay and sandy soil

The new paint scheme is much better than just plain black, i really like it. How does the K5 perform in the mud? Any vids of it going through mud? Someday i got to get myself one of these beauties. Any more future mods being done?

I'm sure it kicks in the mud now the way it is setup, imagine when the blower gets added, hang on.

What did you make your flares from, some kind of rubber belting, works good. Just don't understand, one of the most popular trucks ever built and no one makes flares for them, my tires stick out big time, but nothing i can do about it, just avoid the law and behave, hard to do the second one though.

LMC has 1 3/4" flares. Also email bushwhacker, I believe they used to make them. They might still have a set or two laying around.

another option might be to have someone bent some diamont plate cut in a 2 inch wide strip to fit the lip on the arch of the fenders , if you polish those they whont realy stand out on a custom car

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Thanks for the help on the fender flares, Lmc has the flexy flare, which I can buy here in town, 1.5" or 3" wide, at least available, but not great looking and Bushwacker "seems " to be making cutout only flares, 3" wide at approx $220-250 U.S. each set. So will look into it, especially if I get pulled off the road as my front tires stick out about 5" and back 3", looks cool but sure throws the mud.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Last I checked Bushwhacker doesn't make them for our trucks anymore. I tried several distributors hoping to find a set still on the shelf somewhere and got the same response, discontinued and out of stock. :(

I'm going to try order a set of their cutout flairs for an F450. They are availible in 4 1/2" instead of the normal 2 1/2". If I can modify them to fit I may just pop a mold off of them. I'm trying to visualize a set in carbon fiber.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

ya, bushwacker is a bit wacker on whether they make them or not, but I found other sites that sell the cutout flares only online ans say in stock, all 3" and way easier than cutting some F ones up and modifying, but carbon fiber would be cool for sure, hmmm. I had it saved and is under http//www.truckcandy.com. Same part# for K and subsurbans, not sure if they actually fit a Blazer, is a Blazer different, prob not.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Wow, first video worked, cool. Oh ya I have 3" flowmaster exh. kit I bought and welded up to fit and 3" Super 44 mufflers, has Super copm Hooker headers too, really want to keep this truck this time around and finally pick away at all the little extra things a person doesn't have time to do to make it a step above, time and money, right. Should sound a little better once i get more miles on it, pretty tight with only about 500 miles on it now, should be able to retard it another 3deg for more torque.:sumo:

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Great choice for the exhaust....headers/3" duals/super 44's with a turndown dump right out of the muffler for me.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Hey 69GWC, what is the T221 you list on your truck, the T.case, is it a rockwell style case and how do you like the trutrac, my factory posi is wearing out and looking for an upgrade.

mud.man.rj 07-25-2012 05:58 PM

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

In deep, i was going to go with the turn downs as I usually do, back built it 3" right out the back close to the poly fuel tank (see how that works in time) and actually kind of quiet in cab but loud behind truck, at least the wife will amuse me and go for a ride, she wouldn't in my last truck.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Yeah that's my TC , T221 Rockwell .

One thing i have to say is so far it spins both back tires everytime and it must send power pretty equal to both rears because it tracks real straight while spinning the tires.
It does have some play in it, you can hold one tire and spin the other tire a half turn so I called them and they said that was normal (kinda shocked me at first and why i called) and that this was about the strongest unit out.
So far all good.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

I was considering a Loc-rite and also welding my front to match, that way i could leave the front unlocked till needed. haven't heard much on the strength of the loc-rite for abuse with 500 plus Hp, may not hold up well. Think my last quote for the rear was about $376 canadian.

These are old pics, prior to shopping in 2003. I have taller tires these days, and, a decade AFTER the shopping, some of the rust is reappearing. More recent pics when I can decipher the new camera.

Thanks. Going to hit it with the ol cut n polish this weekend so we'll see. Then figure out what to do about the rear main seal that's leaking.
