Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

So I ordered the new wheels. A few days go by without any confirmation or notification of shipping etc. I email them to see whats up and in the back of my mind I'm thinking they dont actually have the wheels in stock and cant get them, which is pretty much the response I get from them. They offered to sell me 20" irocs from another brand for the same price. Before I agree to that though I look again at my options. The 18" irocs were listed on amazon for a higher price, but listed. They are being sold by another seller through the amazon site, so I contact them. Do you guys actually have these wheels in stock? No, they dont. It was an error and not long after my talk the amazon site is updated showing none available.

The OE Productions wheel is very similar, with a different center. Having 20s isn't a deal killer, just wasn't what I wanted. I know a guy that works for wheel pros and he created software showing their available wheels on various cars/trucks, so I checked it out. Carter Hickman, does renderings and other artwork. Very talented guy.

I scroll through every wheel option and a couple stand out. I asked a few friends which they preferred, and got different favorites from each, which to me means any of the 3 were good and to go with what I liked best.

So these got delivered today. While I'm out of town and cant drool over them.

I think they will look awesome.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

So now I just need tires and a new fan controller for the radiator. The other night daburb stopped by with a new tach and blinker switch. My used tach kept bouncing around and cutting out. The blinker switch cracked where the screw holds the blinker handle. This will pretty much knock out my winter punch list for my truck.

For tires I'm looking at these pirellis. Good price, highly rated.

Looks good. Does it have any rake to it now?

Same rake as before. My old tires were different widths but the same diameter.

It does. I'm not used to it yet. I've seen it so long the old way that its hard to get used to seeing it like this. I love it.

My new farm truck. 1979 C-30 crew cab 2wd 454/400 PS PB AC Tilt

Runs good. Drove it home 90 miles without problems. Lights all work. It has some rust but its not too bad yet.

No plans for restoration. This is something to use so I'm not hauling branches in my C-10 and my tow vehicle.

My son calls it Brutus.

Nice addition! That's a really rust free truck for a Minnesota rig!

Someday maybe. Can't rule it out.

At first glance maybe, but when you look closer you see plenty of rust. Both front fenders and hood, drivers door, rockers, one of the cab supports, bottoms of wheel wells. And I think there is a spot on the firewall too. I know it could be much worse but it will take some work to fill the holes.

We took the pressure washer to it yesterday and got the mildew and moss off it. This was a Washington truck at some point. It was given an assigned Ser# from there. Had a camper in it for many of its years and had a 5th wheel hitch at some point.

My son is bringing it to school monday. I have a new wiper motor and heater fan motor that came with it that I want him to install. The gas guage doesn't work. He can take it to the mechanic class to see if they can get the AC working once the fan motor is replaced. Power steering leak and maybe a leak on the brake master cylinder. It has hydroboost brakes.

Before next winter I'd like to get the rockers replaced and any other cab rust fixed. Maybe door window seals/felts. Maybe patch the driver door up. There is a ton of wiring splices all over the truck. I'm shocked all the lights work and it runs. The dual tank set up has been disconnected and I'd like to get that back in operation.

My kid will end up driving it more than me, but thats ok if he puts some work into it.

For under both sets of doors? That would be great. Any time really. I'm in Waterloo this weekend.

Yes, they are full length one piece ones. Shoot me a text if you remember, and remind me and I will dig them out and get you some pics of them.
