yes, it was duplicolor chevy orange 1620? I think... I just got a new camera and the color looks pretty close...

Dustin, I finally found a part number for Mickey Thompson center caps. Chromed aluminum and NAPA charged me $17ea but summit has them for $12ish ea. What size are the holes in the center of your rim?

I think that this is the set...

Here are other choices
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...DS=1&N=700+115

I don't like the "decal" that my rear center caps have but i'll live with them for now....I would rather have the stamped "MT" set....

THanks for the compliments Jim, I see that your selling the 68 now a
nd not the 72?

Hey Mike,
The '68 has to go so I can pay for the '70 Z/28 I bought. I'm keeping both of my '71s, the SWB 4X4 is my daily driver when I'm in the states and the other is a long term project.

I probably would have bought your 71 if it had been for sale a few months earlier.... I do like the 68 too though but I am in to deep on mine to bail now! You should get a nice return on the 68 though... How much longer in Europe?

I have 2 years left over here. I hate to sell the '68 because it is a very solid rust free California truck but I just couldn't pass up the Camaro. One of them has to go. The '71 shortbed runs to good and as you know these shortbed 4X4's are getting hard to find. My project truck has never even been a thought about selling and the wife won't let that one go either

made good progress tonight, spent 6 hours in the shop and got what I wanted to get done.....

Had the flywheel resurfaced ($48) makes a big difference. Installed the new clutch and think I invented a new way to remove the pilot bushing. Since it's brass I just tapped on a 5/8 bolt and then threaded it into the bushing. I kept threading the bolt until it pushed against the crank and the bearing slid right out. I then used that to seat the new bearing....:)

so the new NAPA motor mounts suck!!!!! I need to look at my old one's but I sewar that the center bolt for the towers where larger than 3/8" As I was tightening the motor to the frame the driver side mount stripped:whine:

Now I have to take it out and jack the engine back up to return it to NAPA.

New throwout bearing came with the kit, I just need to get a new clutch fork boot to seal up the hole....

And after six months the money pit finally has a drivetrain again. Now to set the pinion angle tomorrow night and weld up those perches....:metal:

New energy suspension bushings under the tranny and on the torque arm for the TC. Both of the sets had larger bushings than my originals. But the plate on the bottom of the tranny had 1/2 holes like mine needed:confused: I don't know that I want to mess with it since every other piece that I have bought from energy has had problems too.....

I also set my driveshaft in place just to see it... For some reason it looks like the pinion on the axle is off to the pass side a bit??? I checked my original axle and it measures the same.... Is it suppose to be perfectly in the center of the frame? They are both off to the right by about 1 inch.....

I agree it does look off centered a bit. I actually noticed it before I read your thread. I'm sure you'll figure it out. By the way NICE WORK!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Mike,I had the same problems with the motor mounts.I ended up just using the orignals because they were in decent shape. The new ones were a different size bolt then the old ones...As for the driveshaft angle,is one side of the rear sitting up higher than the other side? It could be the springs at fault...Mine just about has the same angle though...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

They are sitting different, i'm gonna re level everything before I weld the perches in. Should the center pins on the leaf springs be even? I wonder if I have a spring on backwards and one is more forward than the other....

Should the center pin on the spring also fit tight into the perch?

I'm gonna take both motor mounts back off and return them to NAPA. Maybe the energy suspension mounts are better...

All the center pin to perch hole instaltions i did were snug. For my mopar spring perches i had to make some bushings and weld them into the perches.
Looks real good...nice work. And quick too.

Looks GR8 as always, Mike!!:metal:

There was a thread awhile back about those crappy mounts from NAPA :(

I'm sure you checked this already and I'm not sure if it's the case here but some rear housings have one axle tube longer than the other. and they can be off that way. Check the measurement from axle flange to frame rail on both sides and set it from there.

As for the center pins I'm not sure on these years of 4X4's but most all cars that I have worked on with the leafs the pin is offcenter to the front so I would check it out.

I will be waiting for a call from you as to when you are going to make it up here:metal:

RJ22...:)

My "made in India" mounts are going right back to NAPA and they can kiss my "made in Indiana" butt!

I'll try a set from autozone or go with energy suspension. I think that they have a set for this truck....

What is everyone's thought about the tranny mount bushings and torque arm bushings being a size larger than the bolt. The outer brackets are the the right soze so it seems like energy did it on purpose.... maybe they want to allow for slight movement or the bushing is just needed for "crush" resistance?

Not sure about the larger holes.Haven`t been there for awhile. The pinion my be off-center a bit from factory. Some trucks are.Does anyone know about these specifically?Mike,I may be able to help tomorrow. That party is today.I had my dates screwed up.Have fun today.I hope the Yankees lose:sexy:.

Sorry for you they lost.I guess it`s my fault.Even sorryer( :confosed: )that I couldn`t get up to help today.I`m sure I would have enjoyed the day.I didn`t get home until 3pm.There was a blackout where I was this morning. We went out for coffee and found the whole valley was out of power. We had to go over the mountain to get breakfast(riding my bother-in-law`s Harley. He has two). So,I`m not complaining.

no problem, here's what you missed....

I decided to make a set of bushings for the mopar spring perches since the center hole was a little large. Once I went to tack them in I noticed that I was out of gas in the mig. No welding the axle today...:(

And here she is... ready to roll back home. 6 months from roller to roller... not bad since I only spent a few days working on it in Feb, Mar.

I'd call it lucky. The old tranny bushing was a perfect fit for the center pin and I used my trusty uni-bit to make the perch hole larger....
