Insurance companies and revenue offices.....you gotta love 'em.

My son-in-law moved down from Rhode Island. His truck was a '98 Dodge Ram. When he transferred the registration, he was asked for the title. It was still in R.I., but he said the the department in R.I., would't issue a title on anything more than 10 years old.

So, I'm guessing that the iron oxide worms are the reason for that and why your insurance company wouldn't renew your policy.

It is as if they have no faith in our automotive industry and their ability to build something that will last.

Nah, im With Bel Air direct and one of their little laws is they dont insure vehicles 20 years or older... which sucks because i could have a 72 C10 longbed for free. but cant insure...

I'd be switching insurance companies when they tried to give me age limitations on my vehicles. Retarded.

Yeah, I'd be finding another insurer.

cant at the moment, my driving record has a rollover on it... and insurance companies dont like that, since im only 18 and still only have a G2 license

We need to get more Sport truck, 454SS, Sierra GT, and Sierra ST guys on here. :D

These trucks for some reason have really perked my interest. I've always liked them, but have become obsessed with them.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

yea... im obsessed with the SPORT trucks... aswell as the 454SS... but i for some reason love the Sport models over the 454SS... im a small block fan :P and stock the Sports were quicker than the 454SS. Must find 92 Sport 350 5 speed lol

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

It's that 350/5 speed combo that makes the Sports so appealing to me. Of course, not all of them got that combo.

Back around '94 I remember seeing a white Sport cruising the local drag. It was a 350/5-speed with a 4/6 drop. That was the first lowered truck that really got my attention. I think it may have been the first lowered fullsize I ever saw. Just a couple years later I got my '91. Though it's not a Sport, it is a sportside and is a 350/5-speed. :metal:

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

yea... do want 350/5-speed... Well did you know that the SPORT code/Optioned trucks came in a Sportside model aswell.. slightly more rare. but cool!!

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I haven't seen any early Sports with sportside beds, but there is a '94+ (when they had the sealed beam grille) black Sport with a sportside bed on it here in town. It's a shop truck for one of the local bodyshops. Aside from a mild drop, it's stock and still looks really nice.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Just wanted to say that I'm glad I ran across this site. I've been trying to dig up info on my truck for the longest time, and haven't really found anything noteworthy until here . . .

I own a 1990 C1500 Sport. Except for the exterior badging, interior color and motor, it's practically identicle to an SS (so much so that I get stopped all the time with people asking if it is). I'm the 2nd owner of this truck, and the original owner was my neighbor for the better part of 15 years.

I absolutely love it. The Sport models are uncommon in my region, and the black C1500 sport and the SS are even more rare.

What has always thrown me off, though, were some installed options that I thought were specific only to the SS. The truck originally had the SS-style side mirrors (which I had removed as I prefer the larger "standard" ones, the originals are still sitting in the garage, though), as well as the chrome center caps and BFG 60-series tires. Interior came equipped with that charcoal grey, cloth styling - bucket seats, center console, premium sound system with satellite cassette and 5-band EQ, and all the other bells & whistles.

I've noticed even the performance of this model seems to be a bit better than other same year C1500s with the 350 . . .

She's in horrible need of a paint job, though, but the interior is still in excellent shape. Only 138k on the odometer ATM.

Anyhow, the one question I'm really curious about . . . does anyone know what the production totals were for this model? From what I understand, they're almost as rare as the SS.

imperialreign....:welcome2: to the forum! Glad you found us. We try to be your friendly one-stop 88-98 forum headquarters. Nice of you to post a pic.

I'm thinking that a set of those wheels would be just right for my truck....so I can have one-size of wheel and one size of tire.

:welcome2: to the board!

Nice truck, I haven't seen many black Sports, and even fewer with the bucket/console setup. Mine has the bench. Grey/black bench in red truck. And I have always liked those wheels!

Sharp Truck
It's hard to tell from the pics, but are your bucket seats high back?
I seem to remember the high backs in the ss models.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

The truck would look a ton better if I'd get it repainted, just havent' had the additional funds for such an endeavor. When I do get around to it, though, it'll be done right . . . not some cheap $200 deal. The shell will come off the bed, too. Combined with replacing all those worn out and faded factory lamp assemblies, it'd look practically brand new.

I do intend to keep the color scheme. The black with the orange/red striping is kinda Chevy iconic of the mid-late 80's through the early 90's performance models. I'm just not sure about putting new badging on the back quarters and tailgate . . .

@Rich1028 - the seat backing is the same height as the bench seats. I'm not definite, but I think the high-back buckets were specific to the SS.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I didn't read the whole thread, but I had a 1990 Sport that looked exactly like the 454SS. It had a 5 speed manual, and I'm fairly certain it had a V6, not a 350, although I could be mistaken. I'll try to find some pics. I had the standard 4-6 drop on it.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

imperialreign....sounds like you have a restoration intention. I understand the reluctance to replace the decals with new stuff, but (my opinion) that would be the right thing to do. There's a website that enables you to input your VIN and the site will tell you how many trucks like yours were built. I'll see if I can find it....and add it to this post.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

If I had myself a Sport that I was restoring, I would definitely put the stickers and molding back on after the repaint. That's a big part of what the truck is. Without it, the truck will be nothing more than a black '90-'93 with fresh paint.

Maybe go find yourself some black centercaps too. I really like the way the black caps look in those wheels.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

A couple months ago I picked up a 91 C1500 Sport 2wd 350 5 speed. The motor was blown, but it wasnt the original motor. I replaced it with a mildly built 350. Its all red with a black grill and black moldings all around. It has the grey high back bucket seats and needle gauges with a tach. The original chrome wheels even came with.
