looks good, as long as it works that's all that matters in these old trucks.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Dropped the cab on the other night.. but had to pull it back off right away... While i was rolling the frame it didn't feel right, something was binding, that's when i discovered the CV joint on the front driveshaft was bottoming out. So now i have to install a clocking plate from offroad design to lessen the angle of the driveshaft. Plate should be here in a few days then hopefully the cab and box can go on for the FINAL time. Here's some pics before i pulled the cab back off.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
lol thanks guys
Soo i've been back at it. Frustrates me every time I start workin on it i have to do more modifications just for the part to fit. 1 step forward takes 2 steps backwards.. Got another load of painted parts in http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...804_143850.jpg My favorite part of the whole truck, the painted tow mirrors http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...804_143945.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...817_190518.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...817_190912.jpg |
Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
those gauges..... can you get a pic up of what it looks like from the driver seat. i have been looking for a way to monitor my motor but cant really find anything that i like the way it looks, and i want to run more then 4 gauges. last long bed i built i ran the gauges in the cowl of my 4in cowl hood and it turned out amazing but now i want to keep everything inside

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Yea, i've been waiting to let this little secret of mine out til i had it finished. I bought the gauge pod for like 12 bucks off ebay, heated and molded it to the dash, then drilled and welded nuts on the inside of the dash pad so i can easily pop it off if i need to. Looks absolutely great from every angle, I love it! Yea i had the same problem, i needed more gauges but didn't have a good way to mount them without looking cobbled and unprofessional.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
I like the way you mounted the pods on the dashboard. custom? or did you just use and bent a original part?

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
awesome! i might have to steal your idea :D I need to do something and that looks pretty close to factory, I have a few things i would play with but overall that looks pretty damn clean. you dont have the link to which pod it was do you? and how far did you have to work it to make it fit?

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Sweet truck. Can you tell me/us more about your tow mirror set up? Looks clean.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
The gauge pod is 25 bucks on ebay. Made of abs plastic so it's really easy to heat up with a heat gun and form it to the dash. looks and fits very well in my opinion.
I tried a few different ways with the mirrors but this was the best. I welded in a heavy plate for the mirror to bolt to so they wouldn't wiggle while driving and look blurry. Drives me nuts when I can't see clearly out of a mirror.. Heres a couple more pics I took for ya http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...908_135628.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...908_135658.jpg |
Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Here's a few pics of the transfer case clocking plate installed. Worked perfectly except i had to notch out the crossmember, no biggie, long as the cv joint isn't binding.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
The brake set up. Using Dot 5 brake fluid so it won't eat the paint. Supposed to work better than dot 3 but can't be used with abs.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Installed the condenser but have to get some custom a/c lines made since vintage air's lines won't work with my custom set up..
http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...908_135827.jpg Just got in the lower door panels that match the floor carpet. 89 bucks for all 4 from a company on ebay. http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...908_135511.jpg |
Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
And here's a pic of the speakers which will be mounted in every door

Just an idea For the custom ax lines.. Go to your local case ih or Deere dealership. My buddy works for Case and plans to build the lines for our Cummins Chevy k20 build. He has all the lines there.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Thanks I will.
Some pics of the offbrand Dynamat. Installed 70 lbs worth in just the firewall and floor. I did 2 layers on the firewall to make sure no noise makes it through! http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...821_210931.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...824_124800.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...824_124843.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...824_124939.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...824_125004.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...908_135325.jpg http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...908_135415.jpg And the doors will get covered once they are finished. I also filled the roof of the cab with liquid foam to block out more noise. |
Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
This is one of the best truck builds I've ever seen. Awesome job! It is really coming together now. What did you use for the roof foam and how did you apply it?
