Continuing to work on process for R/R of the bolts. So far plan is:

1). first cleaning in tumbler ( done);
2). next final clean in cabinet with aluminum oxide of specific grit ( will post size later);
3). Immediately apply ceramic coating after final clean with touch up gun .08 at 18 to 20 PSI, the coating should be enough to cover item and no more, once covered do not applied second coat ( more on coating process after used , so can report results); and
4). Lastly dry coating.

Probably be a week before getting to do first run.

Put media blast cabinet together tonight, will use it on this project and grandsons 1964, chevy K10. Bolts for putting the bed back together will be first item cleaned with aluminum oxide, grit 120. Will do report on how well it works, quality, assembly.

Thanks Jeff for the support and help with restoring a step side bed.

I used the media cabinet today for first time to clean the bolts from taking the bed apart. The cabinet worked really well cleaning the parts. I really liked how the aluminum oxide cleaned!! I used 120 grit.

The pictures are of the bolts after they are cleaned.

I made a cleaning and coating holder for the bolts out of a sheet of aluminum, then drilled holes that would be taped to fit the bolts. For the nuts used a piece of wire to hold them.

Right after cleaning/etching the bolts ( this was done as one step) I sprayed them with the ceramic material. The spray gun mentioned above worked really well. The bolts were sprayed at room temperature (70 degrees), about 18 PSI, coverage was one pretty light coat, just enough to cover. I we'll report back on how resistant to abrasion the coating is. So far preliminary tests look good.
Picture is right after spraying, before drying.

Step side bed body restoration panels

Today returned the left side step panel to vender, because of poor fit, it was just made wrong where it aligns with fender. It had a big gap. The restoration fenders I am using are no where close to originals either. It has been said here before many time, originals are the only way to go. I purchased restoration fenders, which are supposed to be better, but still not very good.
Another voice saying get original step side bed fenders if all possible.

The body shop is making progress, the bed is apart and pretty much ready for sealer and primer this week. I just need to confirm that a few of the new bed SS bolts are correct. Those that are going to be painted body color were very lightly etched with 120 grit aluminum oxide for good paint adhesion.

The cab and front fenders are moving along too. The fenders are also almost ready for sealer and primer. The windshield is out and the frame looks really good except for drivers side corner with a little rust but solid. The cab corners are being repaired too. They have been welded in and fiberglassed over for strength of seam. The following are a few pictures.
